Home » “Better Than Men’s Team”: Hockey Fans React as USA Women’s Hockey Reaches Olympic Finals With Longest Shutout Streak
The United States women’s hockey team advanced to the Olympic gold medal game on Monday after a 5-0 win over Sweden. The 2026 Winter Olympics semifinals game was tight early, but Team USA found its rhythm in the second period. They scored four goals in that period and took full control.
This win is their fifth straight shutout in the tournament, making it the longest shutout streak in Olympic history, a record of opponents going 331:23 scoreless. The defense has stayed organized, and the goaltending has been sharp throughout the Milan Cortina Games. They have even defeated Team Canada 5-0 earlier.
Team USA will now face either Switzerland or Canada in the championship game. They have not won an Olympic gold since 2018, and it seems like they can finally do it, from their run. Their drought could end on 19th Feb. with one more strong effort.
Hockey analyst Johnny Lazarus reacted on X after the semifinal. He wrote, “USA Women’s Hockey are too good for the Olympics 🇺🇸.”
