With 11 out players, this was the gayest hockey game in Olympic history – OutSports

Canada’s 5-0 win over Finland featured the most out LGBTQ players ever in a single Winter Olympics ice hockey match.
The Canadian Olympic women’s ice hockey team bounced back from their first Olympic shutout loss ever against the United States on Tuesday, blanking Finland 5-0 in their final group play match Thursday in a game that featured the most out LGBTQ players in Olympic ice hockey history.
Both Canada and Finland feature six out players on their respective rosters, but only 11 dressed for the game that was originally scheduled to open each team’s 2026 Olympic journey last week. The game was postponed after 13 Finnish players were quarantined or placed in isolation due to norovirus.
Canadian forward Emily Clark turned in the most impressive performance of the out athletes on either side of the scoreboard.
Clark led all scorers with two goals in the third period, beating out LGBTQ Finnish goalie Sanni Ahola with a sublime wraparound shot and navigating chaos in the crease to give Canada its fifth and final goal.
There are at least 22 out LGBTQ players competing in the women’s hockey tournament at the Milan Winter Olympics.

Forward Laura Stacey assisted on both of Clark’s goals, moving into a crowded tie for fourth in points at the Milan Games.
The only player of the 12 out LGBTQ rostered athletes that missed the game was Stacey’s wife, Team Canada captain and three-time Olympic gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin. The five-time Olympian missed her second straight game with a lower-body injury. Forward Brianne Jenner took over as captain for Thursday’s game.
Finninsh forward Michelle Karvinen captained her squad, while defender Ronja Savolainen helped a late offensive push as the Fins tried to stave off the goose egg.
Both teams now move into the knockout stage of the tournament that kicks off on Friday. Canada will take on Germany on Saturday, and Finland will look to take down Switzerland for a second time at the Milan Winter Games later that day.
