It feels like 2016 in Chestnut Hill. The Boston College Eagles are Beanpot champions for the first time in 10 years, dominating Boston U., 6-2, in the championship game to win their 21st Beanpot title in program history.
The Eagles win the 300th Battle of Comm Ave in convincing fashion in front of a sold out crowd at Boston’s TD Garden.

Will Vote and Andre Gasseau each had two goals in the championship game, while defenseman Lukas Gustafsson posted a goal and two assists in a standout performance on the blue line.
Louka Cloutier wins the Eberly award as the top goaltender of the tournament, stopping 57/60 shots and posting a .950 SV% in wins over Harvard and Boston U. James Hagens was named Beanpot MVP with two goals and three assists in the tournament.
BC wins the first piece of hardware of “trophy season” as the No. 14 Eagles will look to make a run at the Hockey East title and the NCAA tournament.

Boston Bruins draft pick Dean Letourneau gets his 16th goal of the season for Boston College, showing off his long reach to tuck this backhander around the pad of Mikhail Yegorov to extend the BC lead back to three late in the third period.

We’re playing in an NHL arena, so you know Cole Eiserman had to show off his NHL-caliber shot.
He absolutely smoked this powerplay one-timer upstairs past Cloutier’s ear to cut the deficit to two. The Terriers still have work to do with five minutes left in regulation.
MIH: BU GOAL – Cole Eiserman scores on the power play.

Andre Gasseau is having himself a night.
He just hammered home his second powerplay goal of the night just three seconds into the BC man advantage. He now has 15 points in 13 games this season and is on fire since returning in mid January after missing two months due to injury.

No. 14 Boston College found its game in the second period, scoring two late goals to take a 3-1 lead into the third.
Lukas Gustafsson had a hand in both goals, getting an assist on Will Vote’s deflection that gave BC the 2-1 lead. Gustafsson then threaded one through a screen from the point to extend the lead to two.
The Eagles have been good at closing out games this season, posting a 10-0-0 record when leading after two periods. BU has not fared so well when trailing heading into the third, sitting at 0-10-2 in such cases.
If there’s one thing in BU’s favor, it’s that Boston College has allowed 42 third-period goals this season (45.7% of its goals-against).

BU will begin the third period on the powerplay after BC’s Drew Fortescue took a roughing penalty right at the end of the period.
Lukas Gustafsson is firing away from the point tonight, first getting the assist on the Will Vote deflection, then sneaking a wrist shot through a screen by Dean Letourneau and past Yegorov for his fourth goal of the year.
Gustafsson has now scored in both Beanpot games for Boston College, and the Eagles are up by two late in the second period.

The Eagles were swarming around the BU zone late in the second period, and they finally find the back of the net, taking their first lead of the night.

Mikhail Yegorov saw Cloutier’s skate save, and he decided he would not be outdone, making a highlight-reel glove save of his own, denying a breakaway to keep things even in the second period.

BC goalie Louka Cloutier just made the best save of the game so far, sprawling out and lifting his right skate to stop a tight angle shot from Sacha Boisvert, who made a great drive to the net.
The score stays even at one apiece through five minutes in the second period.
Cloutier sprawls out for that one!

If that first period was any indicator, we’re in for a classic tonight. Things were getting chippy at the end of the period โ BC and BU are feeling the hype of the 300th Battle of Comm Ave.
The Terriers got things going early with a forced turnover that led to an early goal, and they kept their foot on the gas, dominating play for the first half of the period before the Eagles got their legs under them. BC woke up in the latter half of the period, and a powerplay goal from captain Andre Gasseau tied the game at one apiece.
BC has struggled this season when its opponent scores first, sitting at 5-11-0 on the season, but they can take solace in the fact that the Terriers are only 6-6-1 when scoring first. BC is 5-7-1 when tied after the first period, while BU is 4-9-1.
Second period action is coming right up.
ALLLLLL tied up after the first! pic.twitter.com/HDUybVz55R
Bruins prospect and BC captain Andre Gasseau continues his hot streak, scoring a powerplay goal for his tenth point in eight games since returning from injury.

A bad defensive-zone turnover by the Eagles gave the Terriers a great chance on a point shot from Gavin McCarthy. G Louka Cloutier stopped the first one, but Brandon Svoboda hacked at the rebound an punched it through Cloutier for the first goal of the game just 2:15 into the game.
It’s Brandon Svoboda’s 5th goal of the season and the second of his Beanpot career โ he scored the Terriers’ first goal in last year’s Beanpot championship, too.
STARTED ON TIME.
