MIAA power rankings: Area hockey teams continue to shine on ice – Lowell Sun

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association has released its latest power rankings for boys basketball, girls basketball, boys hockey and girls hockey.
The area’s boys and girls hockey teams have been far more dominant so far this winter than their basketball counterparts.
Across five divisions in boys and girls basketball, only three local teams are ranked in the top 10.
Compare that to hockey, where six boys teams are ranked in the top 10 in the four divisions, and one girls team is in the top 10.
Records do not reflect Tuesday’s games.
In Div. 1, No. 18 Chelmsford (9-6-0) and No. 39 Westford Academy (0-13-0) represent the area. In Div. 2, Tewksbury (14-0-1) continues to hold off Canton for the No. 1 spot. No. 10 Billerica (7-6-2) is also having a strong season.
In Div. 3, the area is represented by No. 6 Dracut/Tyngsboro (12-1-1), No. 8 Shawsheen Tech (11-2-1), No. 17 Groton-Dunstable (9-6-0), No. 28 North Middlesex (4-10-1), No. 41 Lowell (6-10-0) and No. 42 Nashoba Tech/Greater Lowell Tech (7-8-1).
In Div. 4, ranked are No. 3 Littleton (13-1-0), No. 7 Wilmington (7-7-1) and No. 18 Lunenburg/Ayer Shirley (9-4-1).
In Div. 1, off to strong starts are No. 6 Tewksbury/Methuen (12-0-2, No. 13 Billerica/Chelmsford (8-4-2), No. 27 Shawsheen Tech/Bedford/Lowell (9-4-0) and No. 30 Westford (8-6-2).
In Div. 1, ranked are No. 34 Lowell (8-7), No. 39 Chelmsford (9-7), No. 43 Billerica (8-7) and No. 51 Westford (6-8). In Div. 2, Dracut (1-13) is No. 51.
In Div. 3, representing the area are No. 4 Tewksbury (10-4), No. 26 Lowell Catholic (8-5), No. 36 Shawsheen Tech (6-7), No. 43 North Middlesex (6-7), No. 47 Wilmington (4-10), No. 60 Greater Lowell Tech (3-8) and No. 71 Groton-Dunstable (2-12). in Div. 4, ranked are No. 45 Littleton (5-9), No. 46 Tyngsboro (4-10), No. 50 Ayer Shirley (7-8), No. 64 Academy of Notre Dame (1-11) and No. 65 Nashoba Tech (3-9).
In Div. 5, Collegiate Charter School of Lowell (10-5) is No. 22 and Innovation Academy (5-6) is No. 60.
In Div. 1, No. 9 Billerica (12-2), No. 17 Westford (10-4) and No. 39 Chelmsford (5-9) are ranked. In Div. 2, representing the area are No. 18 Lowell (13-2) and No. 24 Dracut (11-6).
In Div. 3, ranked are No. 19 Tewksbury (8-7), No. 31 Shawsheen Tech (8-5), No. 36 Wilmington (5-10), No. 49 Groton-Dunstable (5-7), No. 58 Greater Lowell Tech (4-11), No. 59 Lowell Catholic (4-9) and No. 64 North Middlesex (1-14). In Div. 4, area teams ranked are No. 7 Tyngsboro (10-4), No. 25 Littleton (6-7); No. 60 Notre Dame (10-7), No. 63 Ayer Shirley (3-14) and No. 69 Nashoba Tech (1-12).
In Div. 5, Collegiate Charter School of Lowell (12-3) is No. 22 and Innovation Academy (2-6) is No. 82.
