The Philadelphia Flyers (24-20-9) are back at home, where they will play three games before the Olympic break, starting with the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. EST.
Philly will look to get things back on track. Just three games after the Flyers snapped a six-game winless streak, they have started another skid, this time at three games. The Flyers are 1-3-1 in their last five, and 2-7-1 in the last 10.
It hasn’t been much sunnier in LA, as the Kings have hit their share of struggles. A three-game winning streak helped out the Kings’ record, which is 3-1-1 in the last five, but 4-3-3 over the last 10.
I won’t be covering today’s game in person, as I am in State College watching Porter Martone and Shane Vansaghi, playing today at Beaver Stadium. Pretty neat.
With that, here is everything you need to know before the game.

This is a huge game for the Flyers. All year, the narrative has been about how tight the Eastern Conference is, and anyone could find a way win. Well, the Flyers’ latest skid has them falling out of position as their postseason hopes slowly fade away.
Per Moneypuck.com, the Flyers have a 12% chance of making the playoffs. A win in regulation boosts their odds to 15.2%, while a loss worsens them to 8.2%. The word must-win may be extreme, but this is surely one the Flyers will not like to lose.
As for the lines, I think another game could help. Rick Tocchet shook things up before Thursday’s game. The new combinations did not look good, plain and simple. However, they did not even have a morning skate, let alone a practice with the new combos. Giving them a second look is warranted.
As for the defensive pairs, I would keep an eye on them. Emil Andrae has been in the press box after a string of poor performances, but Noah Juulsen has not been any better. Maybe Saturday is the day Andrae draws back into the lineup. If that’s the case, I would not be surprised to see the pairs revert to the norm.
