Live updates of Penn State hockey's outdoor games at Beaver Stadium – NCAA.com

Penn State women’s hockey locked down its home turf, securing a 3-0 win over Robert Morris in Beaver Stadium for their 25th win of the season. Despite numerous delays due to the conditions of the ice, the Nittany Lions put together a two-goal second period before notching another tally late in the third.
RMU goalie Maggie Hatch did all she could, saving 39 of PSU’s 42 shots, but the Colonial offense couldn’t keep up, only mustering 13 shots all game. The Nittany Lion faithful showed out in the severe cold at State College, setting a new PSU attendance record of 1,838 fans supporting the women’s hockey team in the 12-degree weather.
Stay tuned in here as our on-site hockey reporter Torin Smith will be back at Beaver Stadium tomorrow as Penn State men’s hockey hits the ice against Michigan State.
Another piece of history made today!!

Penn State has owned play for most of the game, heavily outshooting RMU 28-6 after two periods, but it took all of 32 minutes for the Nittany Lions to find the back of the net, as McKenna Walsh finally got one past Hatch to break the scoreless tie. RMU challenged for a distinct kicking motion, but the call was upheld, and the Colonials lost their timeout.

Just 51 seconds later, Maddy Christian hammered a one-timer off a nifty no-look between the legs pass from Grace Outwater for Penn State’s second of the game.

The ice seemed to hold up better in the second period, only requiring a minor repair at the 10-minute media timeout, a good sign for the rest of the afternoon, and for tomorrow’s men’s game.
Less than one minute after Penn State broke the 0-0 tie, Maddy Christian squeezes another one past RMU goalie Maggie Hatch, who has been peppered all afternoon from the Nittany Lions β€” who now lead 2-0. Our on-site hockey reporter Torin Smith was in position to capture Christian’s goal as Penn State looks to add another late in the second period.

McKenna Walsh nets just her second goal of season midway through the second period to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead over Robert Morris in Beaver Stadium. After an elongated first period break and multiple delays to work on the ice, the Penn State faithful gritting through the severe cold are rewarded.
The Nittany Lions are out-shooting RMU 25-6, but before the second period goal, goalie Maggie Hatch was a brick wall for the Colonials.

Penn State dominated play in the first period, peppering RMU goalie Maggie Hatch with 14 shots and limiting the Colonials to just two SOG. But Hatch has stood tall so far, stopping all 14 shots and a few point-blank chances to keep this one scoreless.

Only a couple minutes into the game, the ice crew had to come out to patch a couple holes. The area behind the visitors’ net and a spot below the home side circle will need some extra attention this weekend.

We’re less than 15 minutes away from puckdrop, and the Colonials and the Nittany Lions are getting loose (and I’m trying to stay warm).

The sun is shining over the stadium, and we are less than two hours away from puck drop between No. 4 Penn State and Robert Morris. The teams have arrived, and the fans are beginning to file in as they take over Beaver Stadium and turn it into Hockey Valley.

Today’s the day: for the very first time, college hockey will be played at Beaver Stadium.
The No. 4 Penn State Nittany Lions women’s team hosts Robert Morris in an AHA conference showdown on the biggest (and coldest) stage of the season.
It is currently 3 degrees in the stadium, with a wind chill down to -9. There were a few snow flurries when I was walking into the stadium this morning, so maybe we’ll get a little more snow throughout the day.
We’ll be covering the game on-site today, so be sure to follow along for updates and a behind-the-scenes look at outdoor hockey at Beaver Stadium.
How to watch: No. 4 Penn State vs. Robert Morris will be streamed on Big Ten Plus. Keep up with live stats here.

It might be freezing outside, but Penn State brought the heat with these sweaters.

The women’s team went with a classic all-white look with a throwback font from the 80s and 90s across the chest. The two thin stripes contrast their usual home whites, which have a thick, blue stripe on the arms and waist. It’s clean and classic, and the whiteout will fit right in at Beaver Stadium.
The men’s jerseys also pay homage to Penn State history, going all the way back to the first era of varsity hockey in Happy Valley in the 1940s. The font and striping on the sweater closely resemble the jerseys the team wore from 1941-47, along with the white pants.
Of course, a hockey game on the gridiron would be incomplete without some football references. The team opted to go with a “nameless’ look on the backs of the jerseys to adopt the football team’s mantra, β€œNo Names, All Game.” The solid blue stripe on the pants also references the football team’s “Generations of Greatness” uniforms , along with the Nittany Lion Shrine on the neckline.
The inside of the collar also features a hidden football design, but the easter eggs don’t stop there: the number font on the back of the jersey features a Beaver Stadium Blueprint pattern to reference the stadium construction from this year.
Remember that winter storm from last week? State College is certainly still feeling the effects. With a couple feet of snow piled up around the rink, Beaver Stadium looks like an outdoor hockey wonderland.
Aside from the snow, we’ve got extreme temperatures all weekend: the feels-like temperature could even dip to the negatives at puckdrop on Friday. I’ll be sure to be bundled up, but I’ll also be keeping a close eye on the ice conditions.
On Thursday night, the temperature dipped to below zero during the Penn State club hockey team’s game. Sounds like hockey weather, right? Well believe it or not, the ice can actually get TOO cold, making it brittle and prone to cracks and deep divots. Thursday night’s club game even had to be suspended after the first period and moved indoors to Pegula Ice Arena down the street.
Of course, the ice crew will be doing everything it can to keep the ice in the best possible condition, but it’s worth mentioning that the rough ice surface could be an equalizing factor for this weekend’s games.
Something to keep an eye on this weekend: the Beaver Stadium ice has needed a LOT of repairs after a high school game. pic.twitter.com/StvClY7Yat
Hey there hockey fans! It’s a huge week in the college hockey world as Penn State hosts a double header in the legendary Beaver Stadium. First, the No. 4 Penn State women host Robert Morris on Friday. Then on Saturday, the No. 5 Penn State men host No. 2 Michigan State in a pivotal Big Ten matchup.
It’s a historic weekend for Penn State, as the Nittany Lions have transformed the nation’s second-largest football stadium into Hockey Valley. We’ll have boots on the ground all weekend, so follow along with all the action right here on NCAA.com.
