Two teams on different ends of their respective playoff races meet on Thursday, as the Colorado Avalanche pays a visit to the Montreal Canadiens.
The Avalanche are playing in the second half of a back-to-back, as they also faced the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night. This is the third of four games through the Atlantic Division, as they had already beaten the Toronto Maple Leafs this past Sunday, and are set to face the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday afternoon.
The Avs have been one of the best teams from the get-go this season. While the results have not been as consistent as they were in the opening months of the campaign, Colorado is still the frontrunner of the NHL.
The Avalanche are atop the league standings, nine points clear of the Minnesota Wild and Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Canadiens are trying to keep up with the best of the Atlantic. While the team has suffered some tough injuries, Montreal is still a favorite to finish in the top three in the division. Despite losing back-to-back games, the Habs picked up a big win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night. The team now sits tied for third in the Atlantic, five points back of the first-place Lightning.
