BSU Men's Hockey Trying To Get Back Into the Groove, End 6-Game Skid at Northern Michigan – lptv.org

The on-ice woes continue for BSU men’s hockey, who were swept this past weekend at home by Bowling Green to bring their losing streak to six games.
But all is not lost. The Beavers have fallen on hard times before, including when they went 0-6 to start the second half of their 2008-2009 campaign. That same season ended with a trip to the Frozen Four.
“The biggest part, it’s being mentally tough,” said senior forward Reilly Funk. “And you know what? Going through something like this right now, we went through it last year, a tough stretch. We became better because of it, and I truly believe when you—if you just go through a season just all full of ups and not many downs, you’re not learning very much because you just think it’s easy.”
This weekend, Bemidji State has maybe their best opportunity to get back into the groove of things when they head to Marquette to play Northern Michigan. The Wildcats are currently last in the CCHA standings, having won only two games all year.
“You just got to get back on the horse,” said head coach Tom Serratore. “[They’re] not the first group of guys that have ever been in a funk. It’s not going to be the last time [they’re] ever going to be in a funk. Adversity is part of life. I don’t want to sit here and get all over analytical, but that’s the way it is.”
He continued, “We’ve all been through it. I could write a book on how many times I’ve been on a four- or five-, six-, seven-game skid, whatever it is. But eventually you get over it, and when you get over it, it seems like it was light years ago.”
The Beavers were only 3 points out of first place in the CCHA standings, with two games in hand, at the halfway point of the season. Since then, BSU has dropped to sixth place and being 10 points away from even hosting in the first round of the conference tournament, the Mason Cup Championship. Including this weekend, they have just four series left in the regular season.
