The Red Wings return home on Tuesday night, looking to keep their winning ways intact as they get set to host the Los Angeles Kings.
The Red Wings have been one of the best teams on home ice this season. It has been a key part of Detroit’s success thus far, and why the team remains near the top of the Atlantic Division for most of the season.
So far, the Wings are 18-8-1 at LCA, one of four teams in the NHL at this point to have reached that many victories on home ice this season. Detroit has been solid on the road as well, but the way it has racked up points in its own barn has been huge for helping the team creep toward its first Stanley Cup Playoff berth in a decade.
The Red Wings are returning home after a three-game road trip last week in the frigid northern air. The team was tasked with taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota Wild and Winnipeg Jets, with Detroit playing three games in four nights. Not an easy stretch at this point of the year.
They now go up against a Kings team that has been lackluster compared to years past. Sure, injuries have not helped its cause, but Los Angeles has gone from a top-three team in the Pacific Division to a team scrapping for a Wild Card spot.
