Philadelphia Flyers vs. Carolina Hurricanes: Picks, Predictions, Odds, and Player Props – news.bet365.com

Just 19 hours after stepping off the ice in Philadelphia, the Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes renew hostilities at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina for the second leg of a home-and-home.
Saturday night’s encounter ended with a shootout victory for the visitors, taking Carolina’s record against the Flyers to 15-1-0 in their last 16 meetings.

A lot of those have been close affairs, though, and Philadelphia will make the journey south full of belief that they can claim two points in the return meeting against their Metropolitan Division rivals.
Recent history, home advantage and a five-point gap between the teams in the standings are valid reasons for Carolina to be strong favorites for Sunday night’s matchup, but the Flyers are a decent team and are the more attractive play at the available odds.

Philadelphia led 2-0 after the first period at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Saturday night, and while they were ultimately outshot 18-21, the Flyers saw a further 21 of their shot attempts blocked.

The teams met in Raleigh in October, when Philadelphia led twice and thought they had sealed the extra point in overtime, only for Bobby Brink’s effort to be chalked off for goaltender interference prior to the shot.

Frederik Andersen was backup goalie to Pyotr Kochetkov for Carolina last night and will presumably get the start tonight rather than sensational rookie Brandon Bussi. That could also be a positive for the Flyers, as Andersen has started only once since November 26, in a 5-1 loss to Toronto.
While last night’s game saw six goals scored in regulation time, they came from a total of only 39 shots.

This meeting could be lower scoring, especially with both teams having travelled in addition to the physical demands of playing twice in less than 24 hours. Carolina’s three previous matches all came in at under 5.5 goals, as did the Flyers’ three previous outings.

This Philadelphia side aren’t exactly the Broad Street Bullies, but they play a stout defensive game, and have not allowed more than 22 shots to get through to their goaltender in any of their last three matches. Dan Vladar, the probable starter in the Flyers’ net, is likely to get a similar service tonight.
Philadelphia’s 24-year-old right winger Bobby Brink is well on course for a career-best goal tally, and he can enhance his record with another goal tonight.

Brink scored 10 minutes into last night’s clash, and was also on the scoresheet on the Flyers’ last visit to North Carolina, in October in addition to his disallowed goal in overtime.

Playing on the third line, Brink is averaging more than 15 minutes of ice time per night and has eight goals in 30 appearances this season.

Brink has four points in six games this month and it would be no surprise to see his decent form continue in Raleigh tonight.
