Two skilled rosters get set to clash on Sunday in the hockey mecca of the world, as the Toronto Maple Leafs play host to the Colorado Avalanche.
These two teams just met in Denver a couple of weeks ago, with the Maple Leafs coming away with a 4-3 overtime win over the Avalanche.
However, the victory has done little to improve Toronto’s chances of getting into a playoff spot or to boost the confidence of the fanbase. Since that win, the Leafs have lost five of their past six games, going 1-2-3 over that span. That includes a pair of defeats at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights, falling 6-3 on Friday night in Mitch Marner’s highly-anticipated return to Toronto.
Heading into Sunday, the Leafs are sixth in the Atlantic Division, three points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Avalanche continue to chug along as the best team in the NHL. While they might not be as dominant as they were earlier in the season, Colorado remains atop the league standings, nine points ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning for the best record in the NHL.
