DiStefano's prediction: Domi will make some noise tonight.
NHL
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings clash tonight at Scotiabank Arena in an Original Six matchup.
While Auston Matthews is scorching hot, my Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs predictions target Max Domi to capitalize as his linemate.
Find out why with my free NHL picks for Wednesday, January 21.
Red Wings vs Maple Leafs best bet: Max Domi Over 0.5 points (+115)
Auston Matthews has been on fire with 12 goals in his last 14 games. However, the value on Matthews’ offensive props is starting to dry up as sportsbooks price him like an MVP candidate once again.
That said, there’s still value to be found by backing his linemates to benefit from his offensive surge.
Enter Max Domi.
The veteran of the Toronto Maple Leafs has enjoyed sustained ice-time with Matthews since Christmas, and it’s resulted in production for him as well.
Domi has 11 points in his last 14 games while skating alongside Auston Matthews, and his ice time has climbed to 17:37 per game, up from 14:50 before this hot stretch.
Detroit has been winning, but the underlying numbers aren’t as rosy. The Red Wings rank 16th in goals against and sit in the bottom third of the league, allowing the 10th-most scoring chances and ninth-most high-danger looks.
I’m expecting the trio of Matthews, Domi, and Bobby McMann to produce once again, and Domi eclipsing 0.5 points pays a lot better than Matthews’ market.
Matthews has been a goal-scoring machine of late, with 12 goals in his last 13 games. A big reason is his increased shoot-first mentality, averaging 3.6 shots per game since Christmas.
For my final leg, I’ll add the Over on Oliver Ekman-Larsson‘s points prop. The Leafs defenseman has six points in his last five games and is getting top power-play time.
The Leafs are 0-3 on the moneyline this season against Detroit. Find more NHL betting trends for Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs.
