Two teams with superstar talent lock horns on Monday night, as Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs visit Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avalanche have been a wagon for the first half of the season, and have established themselves as the frontrunner to win the Presidents’ Trophy. Led by MacKinnon and Cale Makar, as well as great goaltending from Scott Wedgewood, the Avs have done a great job of staying well ahead of the pack from the onset of the season.
Following a 4-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night, Colorado has won back-to-back games and 12 of its past 14 games. The Avs are first in the Central Division, 12 points ahead of the second-place Dallas Stars.
The Maple Leafs have had a really bumpy 2025-26 campaign, but thanks to a very balanced Eastern Conference, they are still close to a playoff spot. After beating up the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night, Toronto has reeled off three straight victories, has moved up to fifth in the Atlantic Division, one point back of the last Wild Card spot.
