A couple of Original Six teams get set to do battle on Wednesday night, as the New York Rangers prepare to visit the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks looked like they were going to continue to surprise teams thanks to a strong start to the 2025-26 season. With young stars like Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar lighting the lamp, and goaltender Spencer Knight playing well, things seemed to be trending upward for Chicago.
However, things have taken a little bit of a downturn over the past week. After salvaging a point against the Vegas Golden Knights and a win over the Los Angeles Kings, the Hawks were walloped in their past two games to end their road trip, falling to the Kings and Anaheim Ducks by a combined score of 13-1.
The couple of losses have knocked Chicago down to fifth in the Central Division and out of a Wild Card spot.
The Rangers have been playing catch-up for most of the season, but in an Eastern Conference where seemingly anything is possible, the Blueshirts are still in the playoff hunt. With points in four straight games, the Rangers are in the conference’s Wild Card picture.
