The defending Stanley Cup champions take on the best team in the NHL on Thursday night, as the Florida Panthers pay a visit to the Colorado Avalanche in a marquee matchup.
There have been few teams that have been as dominant this season as the Avalanche. Though the first two months of the season, the team has lost just twice in regulation, winning 21 of its first 30 games so far.
Though the team lost in a shootout to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night, Colorado has won seven of its past 10 games, and has registered points in 20 of its past 21 games. The Avalanche have the most points in the league heading into Thursday night, two points ahead of the Dallas Stars.
Things have not gone all that well for the Panthers. Thanks to key injuries to some of the team’s top players, Florida is currently chasing a playoff spot. The Cats are starting to pick up some steam, winning three games in a row. They sit fifth in the Atlantic Division, three points back of a Wild Card spot.
