Buffalo Sabres goaltender Colten Ellis of River Denys was removed from the team’s game on Tuesday night after taking a hit in the head during a play by Edmonton Oilers’ David Tomasek at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
The 25-year-old Ellis was pulled from the game by concussion spotters after only 19 minutes of play in the Sabres’ 4-3 win overtime win over the Oilers.
The Sabres confirmed in a post-game recap on their official website that Ellis was in fact in concussion protocol. Ellis’ status as of Wednesday afternoon was not announced by the team.
In eight games this season, Ellis has a 4-3-0-0 record along with a 3.25 goals-against-average and a .895 save percentage. He joined the Sabres after being claimed by the team off waivers from the St. Louis Blues last October.
Buffalo will return to the ice on Thursday when they face the Vancouver Canucks. Puck drop is set for 11 p.m., Atlantic time. The game will be broadcast live on Sportsnet Pacific.
