After a sluggish start to the season, the Flyers have found their footing heading into the new year, and we expect Travis Konecny & Co. to continue their winning ways against a reeling Detroit side.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings return to action to host the Philadelphia Flyers at Little Caesars Arena tonight.
These two teams met last Thursday in Philadelphia, with the Flyers coming out on top 4-1. My Flyers vs. Red Wings predictions anticipate a similar outcome in my best NHL picks for Wednesday, December 18.

My analysis
The Philadelphia Flyers have turned a corner in recent weeks. After starting 4-8-1, they’ve gone on a 10-5-3 run that has them only two points clear of a playoff spot.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Red Wings started 6-5-1 but have dropped six out of their last eight games, plummeting to the third-worst record in the East. On the season, they’re generating just 25.4 shots per game and rank second-last in penalty kill percentage (67.5%)
Diving a bit deeper into the underlying metrics, the Flyers boast the sixth-best xGF% in that span (53.36% since November 7th), while the Red Wings have the seventh-worst at 46.74%.
The Flyers flexed their muscles last week to take down the Red Wings at home and I expect a similar result on the road.
Flyers moneyline
Travis Konency 1+ points
Matvei Michkov 3+ shots on goal
Travis Konecny has been the driving force for the Flyers this season. He’s picked up a point in 21 of 31 games, including at least one assist in 15 of those contests.
Matvei Michkov has transformed the Flyers offense and he’s been a bit more aggressive shooting the puck recently. He’s compiled 3+ SOG in four straight games and wraps up a potential +557 payday at FanDuel.
