FORT LAUDERDALE – The homestand continues.
After falling 3-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, the Florida Panthers enter this week sitting at 9-8-1 in the standings and 1-1-0 on their current five-game homestand.
Nearly a quarter-way into the season, the standings remain tight.
In the Eastern Conference, nine teams, including the Panthers, are within four or less points for a wild card spot.
The Panthers also only sit three points out of the third seed and five points out of the first seed in the Atlantic Division.
“There are some young teams on our side that got off to really hot starts,” head coach Paul Maurice said of the parity of the league. “There’s the same on both sides. Everybody now is going to be wired in, so you’re going to get a better brand of hockey throughout the league.”
With three more games left on the current home stretch, the Panthers, who are 6-2-1 at home this year, will try to bounce back as the Vancouver Canucks come to town on Monday night at 7 p.m. ET.

PETRY’S 1000TH GAME
Another milestone night for the Panthers.
Set to skate in his 1,000 career NHL game on Monday, Jeff Petry will become the 409th skater in league history to reach the mark.
“It’s something to be proud of,” Petry said. “Never would’ve dreamed about playing in 1,000 games. Fortunate to play one.
Over 16 seasons, Petry has racked up 390 points (96G, 294A), 2,041 hits, and 1,577 blocked shots.
In his first season with the Panthers, Petry owns five assists and 18 blocked shots over 18 games.
