Vancouver Canucks 2025–26 Player Preview: Filip Hronek – The Hockey News

Welcome to The Hockey News – Vancouver Canucks site’s player preview series for the 2025–26 season. In these articles, we’ll preview the players who are expected to play for the Canucks in the 2025–26 season. Today, we’ll be taking a look at defenceman Filip Hronek.
Hronek had another solid season in 2024–25 despite missing over 20 games due to injury. The defenceman left Vancouver’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 27, but was held out of the lineup until January 14 due to getting both an upper-body and lower-body procedure. After resuming play, the team only had both he and Quinn Hughes for nine games before the Canucks captain was also taken out of the lineup due to injury. In Hughes’ place, Hronek was able to explore the offensive side of his play a little more. He finished the season with five goals and 28 assists, with seven of these points coming in the games that Hughes was not in the lineup for.
The Hockey News – Canucks site gave Hronek a B+ for his efforts in the 2024–25 season. Despite dealing with injuries and missing time due to medical procedures, Hronek was still able to collect 33 points in 61 games. He also finished the season with the second-most minutes played on the penalty kill by a Canucks defenceman, and likely would have led the team in this stat had he played a full 82-game season. He had the fourth-highest TOI of all Canucks this season (third-highest among defencemen) with 1208:13. Only Hughes (1485:24), Tyler Myers (1278:55), and Conor Garland (1210:52) had more.
2025–26 will be a big season for not just Hronek, but the entire team. After a disappointing 2024–25 season, Vancouver will look to bounce back and make the push for a playoff spot. As one of the team’s top defencemen, Hronek will play a big part in this. Optimistically, the Canucks remain as healthy as possible, with Hronek and the rest of the D-core taking some of the minutes off of Hughes’ shoulders. With a full season hopefully in the cards, it’s likely that Hronek will get back to a season point total of around 40.
