Trouba scores with 32 seconds left after Vegas ties it with 2 in 3rd
Ducks at Golden Knights | Recap
LAS VEGAS — Jacob Trouba scored with 32 seconds left in overtime, and the Anaheim Ducks extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-3 victory against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.
Trouba beat Akira Schmid five-hole on a backhand to help Anaheim recover from blowing a two-goal lead in the third period.
“I like how we’re handling things right now,” Ducks coach Joel Quenneville said. “We’re playing game to game. We’re only playing the game we’re in. That’s the third period there. We’re fortunate there. We definitely gave up a lot. Something we haven’t seen lately, but they’re a good hockey team. We knew the importance of the game. It’s a long season, but we’re a young team. We expect to get better as we go along here.”
Leo Carlsson had two goals and an assist to extend his point streak to nine games for the Ducks (10-3-1), who have won eight of nine. Petr Mrazek made 36 saves.
“We battle every single period. Every single shift,” Mrazek said. “You can see that the locker room is [filled with] great guys around that help each other. We play for each other. That’s the No. 1 thing. The locker room always sets us up to the standard, and that’s what we’ve been doing so far.”

Pavel Dorofeyev and Kaedan Korczak scored in the third period, and Schmid made 25 saves for the Golden Knights (7-3-4), who have lost two in a row and three of four.
“Really thought should have won the game, to be honest with you,” Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy said. “I’m not walking out of here tonight, going to beat our guys up. Over pockets of the game, we weren’t good enough, of course. All in all, I thought it was certainly a game we should have had the two points in. So, let’s build on the positives, fix a few things, and get ready for another really good team coming in here Monday.”
Dorofeyev cut the lead to 3-2 at 3:56 of the third period on the power play to start the Vegas comeback. Jack Eichel won the draw and Dorofeyev picked up the puck, skated into the slot, and fired a wrist shot into the top left corner.
Korczak roofed a wrist shot off the left post to tie it 3-3 at 14:53.
“Our third period was encouraging,” Golden Knights forward Brett Howden said. “It’s more of how we know how to play and how we want to play. The first two, there was a lot of hesitation. Then, the third, you see none of that. We were on our toes, and we were forward and obviously short.”
Howden gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 5:47 of the first period, one-timing a pass from William Karlsson from below the goal line.
Frank Vatrano tied the game 1-1 at 15:49, redirecting an Olen Zellweger shot from the point.
Carlsson put the Ducks ahead 2-1 at 10:39 of the second period, scoring through Schmid’s five-hole.
“It was also huge,” Carlsson said. “We’re playing our game, having fun with it. ‘Q’ is a great coach. He likes to push us on the bench. We’re just on a heater right now, and it shows.”

Carlsson scored his second goal of the game at 16:50, going backhand-forehand then snapping a wrist shot underneath Schmid’s right pad. He has 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) on his nine-game streak.
“Most games, we’ve got everybody contributing,” Quenneville said. “Leo’s putting on a show at this time of the season, early, showing that he’s taking a big step. There are a lot of guys that we’re also very happy with. But Leo’s been leading the charge.”
NOTES: Karlsson left the game with a lower-body injury after the first period. Cassidy said he won’t know the forward’s status until Monday. … Mrazek made his 400th NHL start. He is 3-0-0 in three starts this season. … Trouba scored his third career overtime goal and first since Oct. 22, 2018 with the Winnipeg Jets. His four goals this season already match his total from his last two seasons combined.
