Here’s why I’m backing a Utah ML bet below in my Mammoth Maple Leafs free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
The NHL regular season keeps rolling as the Utah Mammoth head north to battle the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena. Utah’s sitting at 9-4-0 — a rock-solid start that’s got them looking like a real Western Central problem. Toronto, meanwhile, checks in at 7-5-1 and hopes some home cooking helps them climb the Eastern Atlantic ladder.
Utah’s been humming under head coach André Tourigny. Their 7-3 conference record isn’t an accident — it’s a product of structure, confidence, and some timely snipes from Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz.
The duo powered a 2-1 win over Buffalo last time out, and that came right after dropping six on Minnesota. These guys are no fluke.
Toronto’s Craig Berube has his club playing more aggressively lately, fresh off a 4-3 edge over Pittsburgh. William Nylander and Auston Matthews continue to drive the offense — no surprise there. But against Utah’s disciplined attack and stingy goaltending, they’ll need to find another gear.
Last time these two met in 2025, the Leafs squeaked by with a one-goal win. Expect another knife fight.
Puck drops at 7:00 PM ET on November 5, 2025, live on ESPN+.

The puck line is Mammoth +1.5, Leafs -1.5.
We want to hear from you below! Comments are welcome! Give us your picks for this Utah Mammoth vs. Toronto Maple Leafs NHL matchup.
Utah’s coming off that gritty 2-1 win over Buffalo, with solid goaltending and disciplined defense setting the tone. Even with a stumble against Tampa Bay, they’ve been playing confident hockey. Keller and Schmaltz have been the offensive heartbeat — each capable of flipping a game on one shift.
Toronto, meanwhile, has looked resilient. A narrow win over Pittsburgh was followed by a sharp performance against Philly. When Matthews and Nylander get rolling, the Leafs can pour it on quick.
But they’ll need their blue line to hold firm against Utah’s quick-transition style.
Toronto ranks 3rd in both goals and assists — a testament to just how lethal their top six can be. They’ve buried 47 goals and piled up 84 assists already, keeping opponents guessing every shift.
Their 374 shots on goal (14th overall) show just how relentless they’ve been in generating chances.
Defensively, they’re no pushover either. The Leafs rank 5th in hits (321) and 6th in blocks (218), proving they can get dirty when needed. They’re also top-10 in faceoff wins at 411, which helps them control tempo. The sore spot? Giveaways — they’ve coughed it up 232 times, ranking a shaky 22nd.
Anthony Stolarz has been steady between the pipes, with 335 saves and a 17th-place ranking in goals allowed (44). He’s not putting up shutouts, but he’s been reliable when games tighten late.
With recent wins over the Penguins and Flyers, Toronto’s got a bit of momentum. Nylander and Matthews remain must-watch every night — their combined production makes this offense hum.
Keeping that rhythm will be key if the Leafs want to make noise in the East.
Utah’s offense has been sharp, ranking 6th in the league with 44 goals scored. They’ve fired 387 shots (10th overall), proving they’re not afraid to test opposing goaltenders.
When they start rolling, their transition game is deadly.
Nick Schmaltz leads the way with 18 points (8G, 10A), while Keller isn’t far behind with 14. That one-two punch has been a nightmare for opposing defenses, especially when the Mammoth establish their cycle.
On the back end, Karel Vejmelka’s been lights out. He’s posted 7 wins in 10 starts, turning aside 219 shots and allowing only 26 goals. Backup Vitek Vanecek has chipped in with 2 wins in 3 appearances — quality depth that gives Tourigny options.
Sure, Utah’s had some bumps — they dropped one to Tampa Bay after the Buffalo win — but the effort’s been consistent. They battle, they forecheck, and they make you earn every inch.
Against a flashy team like Toronto, that grind-it-out mentality could be the equalizer.
Utah Mammoth vs. Toronto Maple Leafs bottom line: Expect a high-tempo chess match — elite scorers on one side, calculated precision on the other. If the Mammoth defense holds steady, they’re a real threat to steal one in Toronto.
Here is my Mammoth Maple Leafs free pick. The Maple Leafs have been on a roll lately, winning 4 of their last 5 games and lighting the lamp with ease, scoring 4 or more goals in most of them.
However, that offensive surge has been balanced by some defensive lapses — they’ve allowed 3 goals in 3 of those contests, which could spell trouble against a disciplined Mammoth side.
Meanwhile, the Mammoth have quietly become one of the league’s most reliable defensive teams. They’ve limited opponents to 2 or fewer goals in 3 of their last 5 outings, showcasing structure and strong goaltending.
Their offense has started to click, putting up 6 goals twice during that stretch — a sign that their attack is finding rhythm at just the right time.
Given their defensive discipline and growing offensive confidence, the Mammoth at +139 on the moneyline look like a sharp value play tonight.
Furthermore, betting trends lean in their favor, with underdogs of similar pricing winning outright in 58% of comparable spots this season. With both form and momentum on their side, the Mammoth’s balance makes them the smarter play in this matchup.
