Sam Dickinson Stays With The Sharks & Scores His First NHL Goal – The Hockey News

Over the last week, there has been a ton of speculation about the future of Sam Dickinson. After last night’s game, we now know his fate.
Despite many fans hoping he would be sent back to the London Knights of the OHL, the Sharks feel he has played well enough to be an NHL player. He drew into his 10th game of the season yesterday against the Detroit Red Wings and is now officially staying in the NHL.
After dressing in his 10th game, he got the best reward any NHL rookie could hope for. He found the back of the net late in the third period to tie the game and score his first NHL goal of his young career.
The goal came with just 3:05 left in the third period while the Sharks were pressing to tie the game. The play developed with Will Smith centering a pass to Dickinson, who slid down into the slot and ripped it home to push the game to overtime.
Dickinson spoke with the media afterwards about his first NHL goal.
“It was a hell of a pass, right before it we made eye contact, and at that point, I think I knew it was coming,” Dickinson said postgame about Smith’s assist. “I think he put it through two or three sticks, and had a couple guys wave at it and miss. That’s just the kind of passes he can make. It’s lucky for me that I get to receive them and not defend them.”
Now that he has scored his first, there is no doubt he will do it again a decent amount this season.
