Zola Morelli scored the game-winner in overtime as the Bucks downed the defending state champs in an intense back-and-forth battle. The junior took a pass from Aida Ierubino and, in a 1-on-1 matchup, drilled the ball into the back of the net. The victory was made even more thrilling since the Bucks had lost to Conestoga in the PIAA semifinals last year.
Ierubino, a top player in the state, set the stage for the win as she scored the first three goals for the Bucks, including the game-tying goal late in the fourth quarter.
Both teams scored in the second quarter, and that would be all either would get through two overtimes. With the game going to a shootout, Charlotte McNeill scored the game-winner, winning the shootout 3-2.
The Bucks were more than ready to play after their first-round bye, as they took a 4-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Knights saw their successful season come to an end at the hands of PAC champion and powerhouse Methacton.
Sophomore Belyse Landis paced a potent Pioneers’ offense with four goals, while fellow sophomore Scarlett Derstine scored three times. Lydia Ehst and Brielle Bauman added one apiece as Dock advanced to the semifinals after being eliminated in the quarterfinals last season.
The defending district champions advanced to the semifinals after edging familiar foe Pope John Paul II. The Lions will face another familiar opponent – BAL rival Delco Christian – in the semis.
