
Former Shawinigan Cataractes forward Matvei Gridin scored his first NHL goal in hist first game with the Calgary Flames.
The former first overall pick in the 2024 CHL Import Draft scored Calgary’s first goal of the season on the way to a 4-3 shootout win over rival Edmonton. Gridin played 15:25 registering five shots on goal.
Last season the 6’1″ winger suited up in 56 regular season games with the Shawinigan Cataractes scoring 36 goals and 79 points. Gridin added another eight goals and 17 points in 16 playoff games helping the Cataractes to game seven of the QMJHL’s semi-finals. Gridin was named QMJHL Rookie-of-the-year.
The Flames originally selected the Kurgan, Russia native 28th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft.
