
Robertson has goal, assist in Stars win; Celebrini makes preseason debut in Sharks loss

Jason Robertson had a goal and an assist for the Dallas Stars in a 3-2 win against the Colorado Avalanche at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Saturday.
Wyatt Johnston had two assists, and Jake Oettinger made 19 saves and had an assist for the Stars (5-1-0).
Tristen Nielsen and Victor Olofsson each had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche (4-2-0). Scott Wedgewood allowed two goals on 10 shots before leaving in the second period, and Trent Miner made 12 saves in relief.
It was the final preseason game for both teams.
Colin Blackwell buried a rebound in front to give the Stars a 3-2 lead at 15:37 of the third period.
The Stars took a 1-0 lead at 6:15 of the first period when Arttu Hyry redirected Adam Erne’s shot past Wedgewood.
Robertson scored a power-play goal on a breakaway to make it 2-0 at 3:59 of the second period.
Nielsen buried a rebound in front on the power play to cut it to 2-1 at 11:14.
Olofsson tied it 2-2 at 14:11 of the third period when he one-timed a rolling puck in the crease after a one-handed, no-look centering pass from Nielsen.
The Avalanche open the regular season at the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday (10:30 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN1, TVAS) and the Stars are at the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday (8 p.m. ET; Victory+, TSN3).

Mammoth 6, Sharks 4: Macklin Celebrini had an assist in his first preseason game for the San Jose Sharks, a loss to the Utah Mammoth at Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
The No. 1 pick of the 2024 NHL Draft, Celebrini returned to practice on Sept. 24 after illness had kept him off the ice since the first day of camp on Sept. 16.
Mikhail Sergachev had a goal and two assists for Utah (2-4-1), and Clayton Keller and Dylan Guenther each had a goal and an assist. JJ Peterka and Nate Schmidt each had two assists. Karel Vejmelka made nine saves.
Tyler Toffoli and Adam Gaudette each had a goal and an assist for the Sharks (2-4-0) and Yaroslav Askarov made 18 saves.
It was the final preseason game for each team.
Gaudette took the puck the length of the ice to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead at 2:55 of the first period, coming down the right side before cutting across the crease and tucking a backhand past Vejmelka at the left post.
The Mammoth then scored four goals in 6:33.
Sergachev’s shot from the point was initially blocked by Askarov, but the loose puck trickled through the five-hole to tie the game 1-1 at 7:03.
Guenther one-timed a pass from Sergachev to put the Mammoth up 2-1 at 8:59.
The Mammoth pushed the lead to 3-1 at 11:46 when Andrew Agozzino scored off the rebound of Peterka’s slap shot from the opposite side.
Kailer Yamamoto redirected Schmidt’s centering pass to the slot for a 4-1 Utah lead at 13:36.
The Sharks scored three goals in the second period to tie the game 4-4 going into the third period.
Toffoli hit both posts to score from the left face-off dot at 1:53 of the second period.
Goodrow redirected Gaudette’s pass through the five-hole at the netfront to cut it to 4-3 at 4:16.
Will Smith scored off Celebrini’s cross-crease pass to tie the game 4-4 at 13:39.
Keller’s one-timer deflected in off Sharks defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin to give the Mammoth a 5-4 lead at 4:55 of the third period.
Brandon Tanev tucked in a backhand off the rush to make it 6-4 for Utah at 11:11.
The Sharks host the Vegas Golden Knights (10 p.m. ET; HULU, ESPN+, SN360) on Thursday, and the Mammoth will be at the Colorado Avalanche (9 p.m. ET; Utah16, ALT) on Thursday.

Panthers 7, Lightning 0: Evan Rodrigues scored a hat trick and had an assist, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 15 saves to help the Florida Panthers cruise past the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.
Eetu Luostarinen had four assists, Mackie Samoskevich had two goals and an assist, and Jeff Petry had a goal and two assists for the Panthers (3-4-0) in the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions’ preseason finale. Tyler Motte and Uvis Balinskis each had two assists.
Florida defenseman Aaron Ekblad left the game early in the first period after a cross-check to the face by Tampa Bay forward Scott Sabourin. Panthers coach Paul Maurice said Ekblad would be evaluated on Sunday.
Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed six goals on 26 shots playing the first two periods for the Lightning (6-1-0) in his first game of the preseason after dealing with an undisclosed injury. Pheonix Copley, claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, made 11 saves in his debut for Tampa Bay, which also closed out its preseason.
Lightning forward Zemgus Girgensons left the game midway through the first period after being boarded by Panthers forward Carter Verhaeghe. Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper did not provide an update.
Samoskevich gave Florida a 1-0 lead at 5:32 of the first period during a 5-on-3 power play. His wrist shot from the left face-off circle beat Vasilevskiy to the short side.
Rodrigues pushed the lead to 2-0 at 11:54 during a 4-on-3 power play, knocking in a rebound from the right side.
Jack Studnicka extended it to 3-0 at 15:34 with the teams at 4-on-4. Motte drove down the right side and passed across the crease to Studnicka, who tapped the puck in after it glanced off the stick of Lightning defenseman Emil Lilleberg.
Petry then increased it to 4-0 on the man-advantage at 12:57 of the second period when his slap shot from the point went inside the left post, and Rodrigues later converted on another rebound during the same power play to make it 5-0 at 13:55.
Florida widened the lead to 6-0 at 15:49 on Samoskevich’s redirection in front that trickled in under Vasilevskiy’s arm for a power-play goal.
With the Panthers on a 4-on-3 power play, Rodrigues made it 7-0 at 5:34 of the third period with his third goal of the game. His shot from the left point deflected off Lilleberg’s stick and beat Copley to the far side.
Florida will begin the regular season Tuesday when it hosts the Chicago Blackhawks (5 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN1, TVAS), and Tampa Bay will open against the Ottawa Senators at home on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; The Spot, TSN5, RDSI).

Red Wings 6, Maple Leafs 5 (OT): Dylan Larkin scored his second goal of the game on the power play at 3:23 of overtime to lift the Detroit Red Wings past the Toronto Maple Leafs at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
Larkin won it on a shot from the left circle off a cross-ice pass from Patrick Kane.
Detroit trailed by two goals twice in the third period and its four goals in the third and overtime came with a man-advantage.
Albert Johansson tied it for Detroit at 5-5 at 19:29 on a one-timer through traffic from the point with goalie John Gibson off for the extra skater.
Larkin scored a 6-on-3 power-play goal to make it 5-4 at 17:19. The Red Wings had a two-man advantage, then pulled Gibson for an extra attacker. Larkin scored from the bottom of the right circle.
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard pulled the Red Wings to within 4-3 at 12:33 of the third period on the power play, but Cedric Pare answered just 15 seconds later by scoring on a breakaway at 12:48 to make it 5-3 Toronto.
Kane had a goal and two assists, and Larkin and Brandsegg-Nygard each scored twice for the Red Wings (5-3-0). Gibson made 20 saves.
Pare and Michael Pezzetta each had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs (2-2-2). Dennis Hildeby stopped 12 of 14 shots before leaving halfway through the game. James Reimer made 23 saves in relief.
Brandsegg-Nygard gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead at 11:08 of the first period, tapping home a centering pass from J.T. Compher into an open net.
Logan Shaw tied it 1-1 at 15:57, putting in a rebound.
Nicholas Robertson scored on a short-handed rush to give the Maple Leafs a 2-1 lead at 17:45.
Kane tied it 2-2 for the Red Wings, going bar down on a wrist shot from the inside edge of the left circle at 5:04 of the second period.
Pezzetta scored on a breakaway at 16:03 to give Toronto a 3-2 lead.
Alex Nylander scored on a 2-on-1 rush, keeping the puck and burying a wrist shot from the left circle to make it 4-2 at 16:57.

Capitals 2, Blue Jackets 1: Logan Thompson made 29 saves on 30 shots, and the Washington Capitals defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets at Capital One Arena.
Declan Chisholm and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored for Washington (5-1-0).
Mathieu Olivier scored for the Blue Jackets (2-5-0) and Elvis Merzlikins made 20 saves.
Chisholm scored with a snap shot from the top of the slot off a backhand assist from Ivan Miroshnichenko at 2:38 of the second period, giving the Capitals a 1-0 lead.
Dubois made it 2-0 at 10:03, keeping the puck down the right side on a 2-on-1 rush and scoring far side from the edge of the right circle.
With the Blue Jackets playing with a 6-on-4 advantage on the power play and with their net empty, Olivier scored on a netfront rebound to make it 2-1 at 18:14 of the third period.

Senators 3, Canadiens 1: The Ottawa Senators closed out the preseason by holding off the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre in Montreal.
Shane Pinto, David Perron and Lars Eller scored, and Linus Ullmark made 20 saves for the Senators (3-3-0).
Cole Caufield scored, and Sam Montembeault made 25 saves for the Canadiens (4-2-0), who also played their preseason finale.
Pinto put Ottawa ahead 1-0 on the rush at 9:15 of the first period, redirecting Jake Sanderson’s pass at the top of the crease.
Perron increased the lead to 2-0 at 8:22 of the second period with a tip of Nick Jensen’s wrist shot from just inside the blue line.
Caufield cut it to 2-1 at 15:36 of the third period by jamming the puck underneath Ullmark, but Eller scored into an empty net with 44 seconds remaining for the 3-1 final.

Blues 4, Blackhawks 0: Robert Thomas and Otto Stenberg each had a goal and an assist for the St. Louis Blues in their win against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center in Chicago.
Joel Hofer stopped all eight shots he faced in two periods for the Blues (2-3-1). Colten Ellis made 10 saves in relief.
Arvid Soderblom made 27 saves for the Blackhawks (2-4-0).

Aleksanteri Kaskimaki gave the Blues a 1-0 lead at 4:04 of the second period, scoring on the rush. His shot went off Soderblom’s blocker and trickled through the five-hole.
Milan Lucic made it 2-0, deflecting in Logan Mailloux’s point shot at 13:13.
Thomas made it 3-0 at 18:10, redirecting Hunter Skinner’s shot from the blue line into the net.
Stenberg scored a power-play goal at 4:24 of the third period, shoveling in a loose puck in front to make it 4-0.

Flyers 4, Devils 3: Travis Konecny scored twice and got the winning goal in the shootout when the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New Jersey Devils at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
Konecny’s second goal tied the game 3-3 with 1:53 left in the third period. He scored from just outside the left circle with Dan Vladar pulled for an extra skater.
Travis Sanheim had a goal and an assist, and Jamie Drysdale had two assists for the Flyers, who finished the preseason 3-4-0. Vladar made 22 saves through overtime and two in the shootout.
Kevin Rooney, Lenni Hameenaho and Paul Cotter scored for the Devils, who went 3-2-2 in the preseason. Jake Allen made 33 saves.
Cotter gave the Devils a 3-2 lead at 11:31 of the third after Vladar was unable to play a puck behind the net and Arseny Gritsyuk got the loose puck, feeding Cotter in front.
Hameenaho scored a power-play goal 40 seconds into the second period for a 2-1 lead. He scored from the right side of the net after taking a pass across the goalmouth from Shane Lachance.
Konecny tied it 2-2 with a power-play goal at 7:47, scoring from the side of the net after taking a pass from Matvei Michkov, who first tried to stuff the puck in from behind the net.
Rooney, who is on a professional tryout contract, tipped a point shot from Ethan Edwards that went over Vladar’s blocker for a 1-0 lead at 16:09 of the first period.
Sanheim tied the game 1-1 at 18:16 of the first. He took a pass from Jett Luchanko and scored with a wrist shot from the left circle.
Each team begins the regular season on Thursday; the Flyers visit the Florida Panthers (7 p.m. ET; SCRIPPS, NBCSP) and the Devils play at the Carolina Hurricanes (7:30 p.m. ET; ESPN+, HULU).

Bruins 4, Rangers 1: Nikita Zadorov scored twice, and Jeremy Swayman made 30 saves for the Boston Bruins in their win against the New York Rangers at TD Garden in Boston.
Elias Lindholm and Pavel Zacha also scored for the Bruins, who finished the preseason 4-1-1.
Noah Laba scored for the Rangers, who went 2-3-1 during the preseason. Igor Shesterkin allowed three goals on 15 shots.
Zadorov gave Boston a 1-0 lead at 5:55 of the first period with a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle off Fraser Minten’s assist near the goal line.
Zacha extended it to 2-0 at 14:39 with a wrist shot, scoring far side from the bottom of the right circle.
Lindholm made it 3-0 on the power play at 16:48 of the second period, redirecting Charlie McAvoy’s pass from the point.
Laba’s power-play goal at 16:23 of the third period cut it to 3-1, a deflection of Adam Fox’s point shot.

Predators 3, Hurricanes 2 (OT): Joakim Kemell scored a power-play goal with 16 seconds left in overtime, lifting the Nashville Predators past the Carolina Hurricanes at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Brady Skjei fed Kemell for a one-timer from high in the left face-off circle that beat Pyotr Kochetkov to the far side.
Kemell added an assist, and Jonathan Marchessault and Tyson Jost also scored for the Predators (3-2-1). Juuse Saros made 23 saves.
Jordan Martinook and Seth Jarvis scored for the Hurricanes (1-3-2). Kochetkov made 26 saves in his first game of the preseason after dealing with a minor injury throughout training camp.
It was the final preseason game for each team.
Martinook made it 1-0 for Carolina at 9:38 of the first period. He took a pass from Jordan Staal in the right circle on a 2-on-1 and scored with a wrist shot.
With Nashville on a 5-on-3 power play, Marchessault tied it 1-1 at 13:28, scoring with a one-timer from the left circle to the short side.
Jost gave the Predators a 2-1 lead with a goal against his former team at 4:59 of the second period, putting in his own rebound with a backhand at the right post. Nashville claimed the forward off waivers from Carolina on Wednesday.
Jarvis pulled the Hurricanes even 2-2 at 14:57 of the third period. After the Predators turned the puck over in their own zone, Sebastian Aho fed Jarvis in front, where the forward deked Saros and scored with a backhand.
Each team will begin the regular season on Thursday. The Predators will face the Columbus Blue Jackets at home (8 p.m. ET; FDSNSO), and the Hurricanes will host the New Jersey Devils (7:30 p.m. ET; HULU, ESPN+).

Kings 5, Ducks 4 (OT): Kevin Fiala scored with 34 seconds left in overtime for the Los Angeles Kings, who recovered after blowing a four-goal lead in the third period to defeat the Anaheim Ducks at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Fiala won it with a one-timer from the right circle on the rush after Chris Kreider tied it 4-4 with 49 seconds remaining in the third period on a redirection in front.
It was the first goal of the preseason for Kreider, who was traded to the Ducks by the New York Rangers on June 12.
Phillip Danault had two goals and an assist, Warren Foegele had a goal and an assist, and Quinton Byfield also scored for the Kings, who finished the preseason 5-2-0. Darcy Kuemper made 18 saves, and Brandt Clarke had two assists.
Leo Carlsson had two goals and an assist in the third period, and Mikael Granlund also had a goal and an assist in the final period of regulation for the Ducks, who went 4-2-1 during the preseason. Jackson LaCombe had three assists and Troy Terry had two assists. Lukas Dostal made 26 saves.
It was LaCombe’s first game since signing an eight-year contract with Anaheim on Thursday.
Granlund cut it to 4-1 at 10:20 of the third. It was his first goal with the Ducks since signing a three-year contract on July 1.
Carlsson made it 4-2 at 12:09, skating in from the neutral zone and finishing on a wrist shot from the bottom of the right circle. He then scored again on the power play to cut it to 4-3 at 18:44 with a snap shot from the left dot.
Los Angeles scored three goals in the first period to take a 3-0 lead.
Byfield’s power-play goal put the Kings ahead 1-0 at 4:47, a one-timer from the slot under Dostal’s right arm.
Danault extended it to 2-0 at 12:23, scoring off his own rebound from the right post.
Foegele scored on the power play at 17:42 to make it 3-0 when he jammed in Clarke’s pass through the crease after it deflected off the stick of Anaheim defenseman Drew Helleson.
Danault pushed it to 4-0 at 6:52 of the third after scoring top shelf on a one-timer from the point.
The Kings open the regular season at home against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday (10:30 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN1, TVAS), and the Ducks visit the Seattle Kraken on Thursday (10 p.m. ET; KHN, Victory+, KING 5, KONG).
