Sixteen nations will vie for gold at the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
The teams are divided into two groups of eight — Group A and Group B — and will compete in a round-robin format to determine which teams advance to the quarterfinals. From there, the tournament follows a single-elimination format all the way to the gold medal game.

Could this be the year that Team USA finally snaps its streak? The Americans haven’t won a gold medal at the IIHF World Championship since 1933, though they have reached the bronze medal game in three of the last four tournaments.
In the past two tournaments, six medals have been awarded to six different teams. Czechia won the gold last year, with Switzerland and Sweden taking home the silver and bronze, respectively.
Here is everything that you need to know about watching the 2025 IIHF World Championship, including TV and streaming information for the entire tournament.
The 2025 IIHF World Championship features 16 nations divided into two groups of eight. Teams will compete within their groups during the preliminary round, with the top four teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. That will mark the start of a three-round, single-elimination playoff.
During the preliminary round, teams will accumulate points for wins (3), overtime wins (2) and overtime losses (1).

American viewers can watch select games during the 2025 IIHF World Championship — including all games involving Team USA — live on NHL Network. Fans looking to stream the action can do so live with Fubo.

The 2025 IIHF World Championship will begin on Friday, May 9. The tournament is slated to end on Sunday, May 25, with the bronze medal and gold medal games.
Group A will compete at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, while Group B will play its games at Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, Denmark. The bronze and gold medal games will be held in Sweden.
