Dustin Wolf transforms into a brickwall inside the Saddledome, and he'll be a big reason why this tilt goes Under the total.
NHL
The Calgary Flames are hanging onto the final Wild-Card spot in the Western Conference and just a point ahead of the Vancouver Canucks.
Vancouver travels to the Scotiabank Saddledome on the second leg of a back-to-back set to face Calgary on Wednesday, March 12, and my Canucks vs. Flames predictions and NHL picks expect the home team to win a low-scoring battle tonight.
My Flames pick: Under 5.5 (-120 at BET99)
My Flames analysis
The Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames have been two of the most consistent teams to the Under and respectively rank 27th and 32nd in goals per game.
Vancouver has played to the Under in 10 of its past 13 games, and Calgary has an active 2-12-1 Over/ Under record.
The Flames have also been excellent defensively at the Scotiabank Saddledome with the fifth-fewest goals against per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 (1.82) and the ninth-fewest goals against per game (2.66).
Goaltending has also been the key for Calgary at home.
No. 1 Dustin Wolf has posted an elite .928 SV% and 2.17 GAA with 8.19 goals saved above average across his 23 home starts, and he’s also coming off a tidy, 26-save shutout against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
With the Canucks struggling to generate offense, and leading-scorer Quinn Hughes (undisclosed) unlikely to suit up on the second leg of a back-to-back set with travel, I’m not anticipating Vancouver flipping the switch and lighting up the scoreboard tonight.
Flames moneyline
Under 5.5
Nazem Kadri Over 2.5 shots
I expect the Canucks to turn to backup Arturs Silovs in goal tonight, and he’s struggled at the highest level with an .858 SV%, 3.85 GAA and -1.00 GSAA/60 this season. Silovs’ .902 SV% across 15 AHL games isn’t a ringing endorsement either.
As a result, I like the Flames on home ice. Calgary is a respectable 18-10-4 at the Saddledome, after all.
Turning to the final leg of this same-game parlay, Flames center Nazem Kadri often trades with a 3.5 shots total, so I’m happy to include him in the market at just 2.5.
Kadri has three or more shots in 11 of his past 13 games and paces Calgary with 10.52 shots and 20.13 attempts per 60 minutes. I also value him ranking in the 98th percentile of forwards in shots on goal.
