My analysis
The Washington Capitals have been one of the most consistent, if not the most consistent, teams in the NHL all season long, and tonight, they will be a very tough matchup for the Los Angeles Kings. Washington has gone 7-3-0 since returning from the Four Nations tournament and a guy that hasn’t gotten enough love across the league is Pierre-Luc Dubois. Dubois has been the perfect fit for the Capitals and is making his return to LA for the first time tonight since being traded over the summer.
Dubois has been leading the Capitals with 13 points in his last 10 games (4 goals, 9 assists) and is a +9 in those 10 games, getting the job done on both ends of the ice. That said, Dubois has certainly gotten some help from Aliaksei Protas, Tom Wilson, Alex Ovechkin, Dylan Strome, and Connor McMichael, who have ALL been producing at a point per game pace over their last 10 contests. That is wild.
As a team, the Capitals have been scoring 4.20 goals per game in that span while their power play clicks at a 24% rate and their penalty kill at an 80.7% rate.
Darcy Kuemper should get the nod in goal tonight, and while this might be a revenge game for him as well, his number haven’t been that pretty as of late. Kuemper is skating to a .897 save percentage and a 2.70 goals against average over his last seven starts. The Kings have actually been allowing 3.20 goals against per game over their last 10, and their penalty kill is at a 75%.
To me, the Capitals have the edge in this battle tonight.

Washington Capitals moneyline

Over 5.5

Pierre-Luc Dubois to have 1+ points
The Washington Capitals are not hurting for offense, this team has a ton of weapons, but in net, Charlie Lindgren and Logan Thompson haven’t necessarily been at their best as of late as they both have below a .900 save percentage since Four Nations. The Kings are also averaging 3.00 goals per game over their past 10 contests, so seeing the game total at 5.5 seems a little low.
Pierre-Luc Dubois has been on a tear, and I forsee that continuing in a game that will mean a lot to him personally as he makes his return to LA. He is coming off of a three point night in Anaheim (1 goal, 2 assists) and has point in four of his last five games. Dubois should definitely contribute tonight.
