Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final begins tonight.
After Games 1 and 2 required overtime, the first lopsided outcome came in the Panthers’ dominant 6-1 victory over the Oilers in Game 3.
It was evident early on that the Panthers would be a force to be reckoned with, as trade deadline acquisition Brad Marchand scored his eighth goal of the playoffs only 56 seconds in the game.
With the game out of reach after the Panthers went up 4-1 at the end of the second intermission, the final period was remembered filled with fisticuffs as there were seven penalties and six misconducts after Oilers forward Trent Frederic cross-checked Panthers’ forward Sam Bennett just under the halfway mark in the third period.
While the Oilers showed some fight, the Panthers still came away with a resounding five-goal win to take a 2-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final.
Will Edmonton fight back from the start this time, or will Florida take a commanding 3-1 series lead and be one win away from being crowned back-to-back Stanley Cup champions?
Here are the betting odds prior to Game 4, including our analysis the spread, total and moneyline prediction for Game 4 between Panthers and Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final:
Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of Thursday, June 12:
Given the Game 3 result and still having home ice, it’s not a surprise the oddsmakers once again have the Panthers as the puck line favorite.
Yes, it’s hard to wager against the reigning Stanley Cup champions after a performance they just had on Monday night.
But the Oilers are here for a reason, and I anticipate them responding in a big way, which results in Edmonton covering the +1.5 puck line as road underdogs in Game 4.
Prediction: Oilers +1.5 (-200)
The under 6.5 goals in Game 3 was looking less and less likely throughout after Marchand’s goal less than a minute in and three goals coming in the first 7:26 of the second period.
There was a brief glimmer of hope for the under after there was just one more goal early in the third period until Evan Rodrigues scored on the power play, netting the seventh goal of the game and the over officially cashing.
It didn’t help that there were 140 penalty minutes and an outlandish 17 total power plays in the game, resulting in four goals on the man advantage in Game 3.
It’s also true that either the Oilers or Panthers have scored in the first two minutes of the game in each contest so far. So when does that streak come to an end?
I believe it comes in this spot, as the total finally will stay under 6.5 goals for the first time this series after there being seven or more goals in Games 1 through 3.
It’s risky given how this Stanley Cup Final has gone so far but I’m betting there’s six or fewer goals scored in Game 4.
Prediction: Under 6.5 goals (-125)
There’s no denying that after the Panthers cruised to a five-goal win in Game 3, it could mark the turning point in this series and be where Florida officially runs away with it to clinch their second consecutive Stanley Cup.
However, after two of the best players in the entire NHL — Oilers’ forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl — were both held scoreless in Game 3, they’ll bounce back with huge performances in Game 4, leading the way for Edmonton to avoid a 3-1 deficit and ties this series up at 2-2 heading back to Edmonton on Saturday night.
Currently at plus money, bet on the Oilers to win Game 4 on the road and make it a best-of-three series to determine who will be Stanley Cup champions.
The best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final continues in Sunrise with Game 4 in Florida, with puck drop coming shortly after 8 p.m. on Thursday night at Amerant Bank Arena.
