Mason Alderson was the subject of racist social media posts by a fan of a rival club
Ice hockey club the Glasgow Clan have banned a fan for life over racist social media posts about a rival player.
The man made the remarks in the comments of a Facebook post by the Elite Ice Hockey League, external, who had congratulated Fife Flyers forward Mason Alderson on scoring his first goal at professional level during the Flyers 3-2 defeat to the Clan on Sunday.
In reference to Alderson, who is from London, the Clan fan said "deport it" and "he's not white he doesn't belong".
The club said the comments were in "direct opposition to everything our club represents".
The Glasgow Clan said the comments were the opposite of what it represents
A spokesperson for the ice hockey team, who play their home games at the Braehead Arena, said the comments were "deeply concerning".
They said the fan had been issued a lifetime ban from the arena and the incident had been reported to the authorities.
The spokesperson added: "Let us be absolutely clear: racism, homophobia, and any form of discriminatory or hateful behaviour will not be tolerated — whether online, in the arena, or anywhere associated with our club.
"We are proud to be a diverse and inclusive organisation that welcomes players, staff, and fans from all walks of life. Anyone found engaging in racist, homophobic, or abusive behaviour will face a ban and will be refused entry to Braehead Arena."
Fife Flyers posted the same statement as Glasgow Clan, and said the fan was banned from all Flyers games as well.
Alderson, 23, spent the past two years playing between between National Ice Hockey League side Solway Sharks and current Elite Ice Hockey League Champions Belfast Giants, before moving to Fife in June.
He has been capped by Great Britain at U18 and U20 level.
