The World Junior Summer Showcase is an important precursor to the World Junior Championship, which kicks off on Dec. 26 in St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota later this year. Four countries will come to compete and give evaluators a chance to see everyone in the same place as they look to build their rosters for December.
This year, the showcase will be played in Minneapolis at the University of Minnesota’s Ridder Arena. The United States will host teams from Sweden, Finland and Canada for games played between July 27 and August 2. Many of the players participating have been drafted or will be drafted by NHL teams, providing one of the largest collections of high-end talent outside of the WJC itself.
FloHockey will be on the ground providing editorial coverage of this event, speaking with top prospects, coaches and decision makers to help set the table for the march to the World Juniors.
USA, Sweden and Finland have all announced their rosters and have begun practicing at the event. Canada announced their final roster Sunday and will have its first practice in Minneapolis Sunday night.
* – Named to initial roster, but unable to participate
Note: Anton Frondell (CHI) and Victor Eklund (NYI) were both named to the camp roster, but will not be in Minnesota for the showcase.
