Hershey Bears, Giant Center to host NHL preseason game – PennLive

NHL action is coming to the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The home of the Hershey Bears is set to host an NHL exhibition game in a couple of months, the Bears announced on Thursday.
The Washington Capitals — the NHL affiliate for the Hershey Bears — will take on the Philadelphia Flyers in Hershey on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
Tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday, July 18 at 10 a.m. at HersheyEntertainment.com and Ticketmaster.com. In addition, Hershey Bears and Washington Capitals season ticket holders will be emailed instructions on how to purchase tickets.
“We’re excited to bring our team to Hershey for this preseason matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers,” Capitals senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick said. “Hershey has a rich hockey tradition and we are proud to be a part of that legacy through our longstanding and successful partnership with our AHL affiliate.
“The affiliation between our two organizations has been essential in developing our players, instilling our organizational values, and building a strong connection with the local community. We look forward to the chance to engage with the passionate and loyal fans who make Hershey such a special place for hockey.”
The Hershey Bears team originated in 1932 and has been a part of the AHL since the 1938-39 season. Hershey has won the Calder Cup 13 times, which is a league record.
The Bears have been affiliated with the Washington Capitals since the 2005-06 season. Last season, 15 players on the Capitals roster previously played for the Hershey Bears. In addition, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery was the head coach of the Bears from 2018-21.
This will be the fourth time the Giant Center has hosted an NHL preseason game but the first time since 2006.
“We are proud of our partnership with the Washington Capitals and we look forward to welcoming them and the Philadelphia Flyers to Giant Center in September,” Hershey vice president of hockey operations Bryan Helmer said. “Hershey is a historic hockey market that has played a large role in the careers of many NHL players over the years.
“We are excited to showcase NHL action to our dedicated fans who are the best in the American Hockey League and are sure to provide a great atmosphere for this marquee showcase.”
The Washington Capitals advanced to the second round of the NHL playoffs this past season, before falling to the Carolina Hurricanes in five games.
As for the Philadelphia Flyers, they finished last year with a 33-39-10 record.
