After what may be one of the most exciting games in playoff hockey of the past 10 years, the Panthers secured a tough 5-4 win on the road to tie the series up 1-1.
So let's recap all of the highlights leading to the game-winner from Marchand!
After Oilers forward Evander Kane got rung up on a high-sticking penalty just 37 seconds into the game, the Florida Panthers took advantage almost immediately with a Sam Bennett goal to go up 1-0.
The goal marked Bennett's 13th of the playoffs – the most of any other player.
Edmonton had a golden opportunity of their own after Florida's Aaron Ekblad was called for a holding penalty – 47 seconds after Bennett scored.
In their mistakes, the Oilers not only failed to convert on their first power play of the game but also received yet another penalty due to a tripping call against Ryan Nugent-Hopkins that sent the game into a 4-v-4 matchup.
Florida had a short power play once Ekblad left the box, but Edmonton held them off – leading to Kane making up for his earlier mistake to tie it all up 1-1.
During the game's second 4-v-4 situation after Darnell Nurse and Matthew Tkachuk both received minor penalties, Evan Bouchard lifted the Oilers to a 2-1 lead with over 10 minutes remaining in the period.
Three minutes later, the Panthers answered right back with a goal of their own from Seth Jones to tie it all up 2-2.
Things got chippy during the period after a collision with Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner caused a stoppage in play after he was slow to get up.
Skinner would continue to play as Edmonton went on the power play – which ultimately led to, of course, a Connor McDavid – Leon Draisaitl goal to retake the lead.
Heading into the first intermission, both teams would end with a whopping 11 combined penalties, five goals, 25 shots, and 22 hits in what would be the most thrilling first period of the entire Stanley Cup Playoffs.
After starting off the second period with just over 50 seconds left on their fourth power play, the Panthers failed to convert.
However, almost nine minutes into the period, Florida got back on the board to tie it all up at three apiece thanks to Dmitry Kulikov's second goal of the playoffs.
Panthers star Brad Marchand got the lead back for the Panthers after scoring a breakaway, shorthanded goal after sending one through Skinner's five-hole to put Florida up 4-3.
The period would end with a lot less excitement than the first, seeing just two goals to the previous five and three penalties to the previous 11.
Florida responded to Edmonton's 14 shots in the first period with 14 of their own in the second while both teams got the hit count to 55 through two.
Despite the goal count cooling down from the insane first period, it didn't mean the excitement ever stopped.
With just 18 seconds left, Corey Perry's eighth goal of the playoffs gave his Oilers team one last opportunity in overtime to take home of the win in Game 2.
Unfortunately for the Edmonton faithful, the efforts were spoiled after Marchand scored his second breakaway goal of the game to win it in double overtime for the Panthers.
Game 3 will take place in Florida on Monday, June 9th.
