The Florida Panthers have yet another chance to punch their ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals.
And, if trends are on the Panthers’ side in Game 5, it could be a good chance for Florida to close this one out against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Panthers scored a combined 10 goals in both games at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, and have potted 43 goals on the road throughout the entire playoffs.
But, at least in Game 4, it was all Hurricanes in southern Florida as the Panthers were shut out for the first time since Game 6 against the Toronto Maple Leafs on May 16.
The Panthers appeared doomed from the start in Game 5, between an fighting-for-their-lives Hurricanes squad and relying on Sergei Bobrovsky more than usual to try to keep them in a game. But not every goalie is perfect every night, as Logan Stankoven (short-handed) scored, along with Jordan Staal and Sebastian Aho adding empty-netters in the last few minutes.
If the Panthers win in Game 5, it could still potentially give them a little bit more of a break before Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on June 8. With the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers duking it out in the Western Conference Final, that series, at a minimum, will at least go to May 29 (that series’ Game 5).
Sam Reinhart, A.J. Greer and Niko Mikkola all did not play for the Florida Panthers in Monday’s Game 4 with undisclosed injuries. But all three skated with the team in Tuesday’s off day. Reinhart has been out with a lower body injury suffered on a hit by Sebastian Aho in Game 2. Mikkola, who has an upper body injury, and Greer, whose injury is undisclosed, also missed Game 4.
The Panthers take on the Hurricanes at 8 p.m. ET for Game 5 for the Eastern Conference Final in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the Lenovo Center.
