In an incredible quarterfinal showdown at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Denmark stunned Canada with a dramatic 2-1 victory, marking a historic moment in Danish hockey.
The game, which was scoreless for nearly all of regulation, was practically dominated by Canada, but saw the Danes rally in the final minutes.
After a tense battle through most of the third period, Travis Sanheim broke the 0-0 deadlock for Canada, putting them ahead 1-0.
However, Denmark, undeterred and emboldened, struck back with two goals in the last three minutes.
Nikolaj Ehlers tied the game with a powerful shot from the point, igniting the Danish crowd. Just moments later, Nick Olesen delivered the game-winner, sending the fans into a frenzy as time expired.
This comeback not only secures Denmark’s place in the semifinals but also sent Canada packing. With Frederik Dichow’s stellar performance in goal and a relentless team effort, Denmark head into a matchup with Switzerland with a chance to head to the IIHF final.
