The Edmonton Oilers faced off in Game 3 of their divisional final against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday.
Social media reaction to the game was fast and furious. Here are some of the lightlights:
Sportsnet Stats @SNstats
Oilers Vasily Podkolzin is averaging 4.61 points per 60 minutes this postseason, 4th highest in the NHL
Oilers fan Klima’s Lid @thackattack41
The starting goalie struggled in the playoffs and now the backup, who was playing well, is hurt. This is why, when you’re a Stanley Cup contender, you trade for goaltending depth prior to the trade deadline.

Playoff hockey, eh. Professional fouls

Las Vegas hockey commentator for The Athletic Jesse Granger @JesseGranger_

Stuart Skinner walked off the ice for warm ups with a giant smile across his face, and was greeted by his wife and two sons as he walked to the Oilers dressing room. This is such a huge moment for him. Could be the last chance he gets to prove he’s the guy in Edmonton.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
McNabb is taking warmups for Vegas
NHL commentator John Shannon @JShannonhl
Oil Country never disappoints. Yet another #Oilers5050 jackpot over $2 million ahead of Game 3. Don’t miss your chance to help kids in need and (and win big)! If you’re in Alberta…
Oilers fan Waddsy 🇨🇦 @waddsy19
I’m actually excited to see Skinner get the net. Picks has been good. No complaints but Oilers need Skinner going if they want to make a deep run. He’s capable. A couple big saves and an early lead and he’ll settle in.
Mark Spector🇨🇦🇺🇦 @SportsnetSpecs (on Bouchard’s shot block at 13:42)
Bouchard may have saved a goal there, with Barbashev on the doorstep.
How does a goalie have a good game, coming off the shelf like Skinner?
Have a team in front of him making plays like that helps.

What a look by 97. What a snipe by Worm. Great start.
Hockey commentator Paul Bissonnette @BizNasty2point0
The worm Corey Perry is like hockey’s Benjamin Button. He’s getting younger and younger by the year. Playing some of the best hockey of his career. 🐛
Oilers Paul Almeida @AzorcanGlobal
What a brutal call on Kane. First contact was the chest. The officiating has been atrocious during these playoffs.

Nicolas Roy gets Vegas on the board ⚔️ pic.twitter.com/WkwsmpIe7H
Hockey scout Dan Tencer @dantencer
Roy, who should be suspended, bangs in an awful rebound that was initially created by an equally awful neutral zone turnover by Leon. Self inflicted.
Oilers fan The Lunz @lunz71
Bouch with a great view of that first vegas goal
Vegas commentator Jesse Granger @JesseGranger_
Nic Roy cuts Edmonton’s lead to 2-1 with a rebound in front. Skinner did not handle that shot from distance well at all.
Oilers fan Rob Soria @Oil_Drop
Tough turnover from Draisaitl but that rebound from Skinner was 🤮 (barf). Settle in Stu
Oilers fan Bookjie🇨🇦 @Bookjie
I’m trying to be fair to Skinner here. Pickard also had some games where he let in some weak goals early. I feel little sad and nervous right now though.
Toronto hockey writer Ken Campbell @Ken_Campbell27
And Nicolas Roy, who shouldn’t even be playing tonight, scores to tie it. Because NHL.
Las Vegas sports commentator Chris Gawlik @TDChrisG
Nice Roy lol. I’m sure that will be well received.

2 GOALS IN 54 SECONDS AND VEGAS TIES IT 😱🫨 pic.twitter.com/5iRbSuCFNN
Former Oilers and hockey commentator Ryan Whitney @ryanwhitney6
Podkolzin is a forward for a reason. Made Reilly Smith look like McDavid. Tie game damnit. Gotta answer next
Oilers fan Matt Schellenberger @mattschellen
It’s ok we’re no good playing with a lead anyway. 🫠. Bad defense first but why is Skinner raising his pads there and opening the 5 hole? 🤪
Sportsnet’s Kevin Bieksa
Never trust a forward to defend.
Sportsnet Mark Spector🇨🇦🇺🇦 @SportsnetSpec
Defensive let downs — a rough turnover by Draisaitl, and a weak effort by Podkolzin and Arvidsson — and Vegas climbs right back into this game.
Oilers fan Karman Gill @Kgill39
I have no words for Skinner. 2 goals in 1 minute?
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Mark Stone left the bench, did not play the last 6:20
Sportsnet commentator Rick Bowness
Edmonton played 13.5 outstanding minutes, they could not have asked for a better start, but then they just kind of got looose after they got the 2-0 lead and the kind of imploded. Coaches hate turnovers at the blueline (by Draisaitl).
Las Vegas sports commentator Ken Boehlke SinBin.vegas @SinBinVegas
Horrible start. Awesome response. Stone only played 34 seconds after the second EDM goal and was not on the bench to end the period.
Las Vegas sports commentator Ken Boehlke SinBin.vegas @SinBinVegas
Jack Eichel’s give-a-sh*t meter is on another level tonight. He’s playing this game like his life depends on it. Needs some help on that line.

Vegas commentator Chris Gawlik @TDChrisG
Skinner is making the saves, but does not look comfortable doing so. This needs to be a volume game. VGK needs to finish with 30+ shots.
Vegas sports writer Danny Webster @DannyWebster21
Big stop by Skinner as Theodore got alone in the slot with Kolesar screening him.
Oilers fan David Shortt @AdMan0828
VGK has elevated and the Oilers haven’t matched. 😬
VGK sports writer Danny Webster @DannyWebster21
Skinner got the paddle on Hertl’s wrap-around attempt. Huge save, as Skinner had to dive to the far post.
Edmonton hockey writer Jackie Bonduant @JackieBee_16
Skinner is playing much better in the 2nd but let’s be honest – the team is hanging him out to dry
Hockey scout Dan Tencer @dantencer
SKINNER! Huge save. Get the man some run support!

Vegas hockey writer Danny Webster @DannyWebster21
What a shift from this makeshift line led by William Karlsson, who plays give-and-go with Hanifin and his one-timer squeaks by Skinner.
Edmonton hockey writer Preston Hodgkinson @NHLHodgkinson
An exhausted Oilers group made a poorly timed change and the Knights storm up the ice to take their first lead of the game Karlsson, and its three straight Vegas goals
Edmonton hockey writer Jackie Bondurant @JackieBee_16
If you’re solely placing the score of this game on Skinner you’re not watching. The Oilers are literally hanging him out to dry. Every single Oiler needs to get their head in the game
Hockey scout Dan Tencer @dantencer
Another Grade A turnover by Leon leads to huge pressure – then a terrible change – then another forward victimized trying to defend and a questionable shortside goal. Self inflicted again. Very tough game for 29.
Sportsnet’s Mark Spector🇨🇦🇺🇦 @SportsnetSpec
Lazy change by Draisaitl and co. a 4-on-2. Vegas makes them pay. Goals have to be harder to come by than that.
Hockey commentator and former Oiler Ryan Whitney @ryanwhitney6
Who changed there? You can’t change there
Oilers fan Bone @bonejrp
Moronic line change there, but once again through a hole that shouldn’t be there on Skinner.
Cult of Hockey writer David Staples @dstaples
Lots of ugly defensive play
First goal: bad Drai turnover, Bouch out of position, bad rebound control Skinner.
Second goal: Arvy and Podz beat on rush, Klingberg out of position.
Third goal: atrocious line change Drai and Walman, Nurse  lost battle, Janmark exhausted and beat.
Vancouver hockey writer Jason Brough @SadClubCommish
The Oilers have so many glaring defensive breakdowns, it’s crazy. Watch them still win tho.
Oilers fan Burt Schoeppe バート @BurtSchoeppe
I am convinced the Edmonton Oilers just wanted to extend their record for comeback wins in the playoffs.
Vegas writer Danny Webster @DannyWebster21
Nothing dangerous for the Oilers through almost 8 minutes. Golden Knights are keeping them to the outside.
Oilers fan Brad Lauder @OILfanincowtown
Need something to happen… a big hit, an odd man rush, a solid chance, sustained O Zone time… something.
Las Vegas sports commentator Ken Boehlke SinBin.vegas @SinBinVegas
One of the most important things VGK had to do in this series was force the Oilers to split up McDavid and Draisaitl. If they were never forced to be taken apart, it was going to be tough to win it. It has happened and you’ve seen EDM slow down.
Oilers fan ABBA Oil 🇨🇦 @Adam_B888
Do the Oilers know they don’t have the lead???
Vegas writer Jesse Granger @JesseGranger_
Massive save by Stuart Skinner to glove Nic Roy’s shot from the doorstep. He slid across, and Roy cut back against the grain and fired high, but Skinner flashed the glove to keep it 3-2.
Oilers fan Stu The Penguin @StuThePenguin
Skinner is making some saves. Get him a goal!
Vegas hockey commentator Ryan Wallis @RyanHockeyGuy
Ridiculous glove save from Skinner on Roy alone in front.
Oilers fan Trent Wilhauk @TheMrWilhauk
Oilers are GROSS tonight
Sportsnet’s Mark Spector🇨🇦🇺🇦 @SportsnetSpec
Skinner has faced more Grade A chances than Hill tonight. That saves keeps his team alive, but two third period shots by EDM won’t cut it. Six-game winning streak – all come from behind – at serious risk here.
Vegas hockey writer Danny Webster @DannyWebster21
Adin Hill with his biggest stop of the night, robbing McDavid in front.

MCDAVID TIES IT LATE FOR THE OILERS 👀🍿 pic.twitter.com/vG1eMcKLKc
Vegas commentator Tony Cordasco @TonyDasco
To have all those saves and give up a goal off McNabb’s skate is a tough break for Hill/VGK
Sportsnet commentator Louie Debrusk
A little friendly fire… You make your breaks in this game and he (McDavid) made that break in the third period.
Vegas hockey commentator Chris Gawlik @TDChrisG

Vancouver hockey commentator Mike Halford @MikeHalford604

Oilers fan Stu The Penguin @StuThePenguin
Worst game of year for Draisaitl.
Former NHLer jason demers @jasondemers5
Omg Reilly Smith legacy game 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ play started by Wild Bill Karlsson. Cannot go to sleep for a second in this league #StanleyCupPlayoffs
Daily Faceoff editor Matt Larkin @MLarkinHockey
Somehow that has to be more demoralizing for the Oilers/an even bigger momentum gain for Vegas than if Smith scored in OT, I don’t know why. Just a feeling.
St. Louis hockey writer Andy Strickland @andystrickland
What a play by Karlsson to transport the puck up ice, hunt it down, and get the puck to the front of the net to Smith. Unbelievable.
Oilers fan Tyson Munro @Tys35
Completely inexcusable from Kulak, Nurse, and Draisaitl as well. Play to the horn
Edmonton sports commentator Dustin Nielson @nielsonTSN1260
Three Quick Thoughts
1. Worst game I’ve seen Draisaitl play in a long long time.
2. Team was soooo sloppy tonight, way too many unforced errors.
3. Still in the drivers seat, nobody was thinking sweep, everything is okay.
Hockey analyst Jack Han @JhanHky
EDM goals against:
1x massive offensive blueline turnover
2x poor sorts during a line change
1x whatever it is that happened just now
Former Oilers dman Chris Pronger @chrispronger
Ouch that one stings. I think everyone in the arena and on TV were preparing for an OT period. Wow, not William Karlsson. Tough outcome. Need to be better in Game 4. Win a game at home and take a stranglehold on this series. Delete this one and prepare for the next.
Edmonton media commentator Courtney Theriault @cspotweet
Leon Draisaitl has now scored against all 32 NHL teams
Sportsnet’s Rick Bowness
Shocking. Shocking.
Oilers fan Morgan Laidler 🇨🇦 @MorganLaidler
Man, I’m logging off for the night. Some of you are just enjoying hating Skinner way too much for me. Glad the Oilers lost so you guys can keep being mad.Enjoy it, I guess.
Vegas Golden Knights @GoldenKnights
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT JUST HAPPENED?!?!?!?!?!?… WE ARE BACK IN THE SERIES 🙌
David Staples of the Cult of Hockey
Vegas deserved to win that game.
From the start of the second period until McDavid’s Grade A shot with six minutes left in game, VGK had 10 Grade A shots, Edm 1.
Overall, 4.3 expected goals for VGK, 2.9 for Edmonton.
Painful but justice was done.
Edmonton Oilers @EdmontonOilers
“That’s a goalie’s job to give your team a chance to win the game. I thought I did, but it’s a couple of tough bounces here & there.”
Stuart Skinner reflects on his first game back between the Oilers pipes.
“We didn’t sort it out very well to let the puck get into the slot. After that, it’s unlucky, it’s unfortunate. It goes off my stick & I’m just trying to keep it out of the net. It’s just a bad bounce.”
Leon Draisaitl on Vegas’ buzzer-beater goal.
