The Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights face off tonight in Game 2 of what amounts to the Pacific Division final.
Here is how the game played out with online commentary from fans and pundits from both sides, and elsewhere:
Las Vegas Hockey website SinBin.vegas @SinBinVegas
VGK have been excellent in Game 2 when they drop Game 1. 5-1 all-time including all three games at T-Mobile Arena. They’ve won by at least 2 in all 5 Game 2 wins when trailing in the series.

Edmonton Oilers @EdmontonOilers
“We have the belief system, especially on the road, of this is about us. Let’s make other teams adjust to us. When we’re at our best & everyone’s going we’re really hard to defend & handle.” — Leon Draisaitl on teams trying to line match them.
L.A. Kings fan @WilliamHillUS Slava @daddykopitar
After watching the Oilers absolutely cook Vegas yesterday, it settled my nerves about the Kings a little.
The Oilers are just too good right now.
Edmonton Hall of Fame hockey writer Terry Jones @byterryjones
We’ve seen “Refuse to Lose” late in playoff games and playoff series. But with Edmonton Oilers having lost Game 1 in eight of their previous 10 playoff series, tonight is the Knight to see “Killer Instinct”. You can’t win a Stanley Cup in Game 2 of Rnd 2. But you can pave way.

Sportsnet panelist and former NHL coach Derek Lalonde (on Vegas giving up nine rush chances and four goals off the rush in Game 1)
You don’t see that very often. The last thing you want to see is this guy coming at you with that much speed, your angles, you’ve got to get above them as quick as you can and slow them up.
Elliotte Friedman, Hockey Night in Canada
(VGK) They need to find some secondary scoring. One of the biggest storylines in Edmonton has been the scoring of players not named McDavid or Draisaitl. The supporting cast has been excellent. Outside of Brett Howden (six points in the playoffs), Vegas is really battling to find it.
Oilers fan K-JAM @KevinJamieson86
The danger tonight is, as always, in the Oilers’ start. Hope they find the legs quickly and consistently.
Hockey scout Dan Tence @dantencer (after Mark Stone muffs on wide open net in first minute)
Stone doesn’t miss those often. What a bounce for Edmonton.
The Athletic’s VGK writer Jesse Granger @JesseGranger_
Evan Bouchard was messing around too much with the puck in his own end, and it ends up causing a chaotic situation where Trent Frederic trips Brandon Saad. Vegas’ power play gets the first chance of the night.

Vegas hockey coimmentator Ryan Wallis @RyanHockeyGuy
Power Play goal. Tremendous pass from Stone to Olofsson. Rips home his first career playoff goal.
Spittin’ Chiclets commentator Ryan Whitney @ryanwhitney6
Kulak can’t let that get though. No worries he’s been great. let’s find our game here
Hockey Night in Canada panelist and former coach Rick Bowness
The net front D (Kulak) has one responsibility, and that’s to stop that back door pass that’s that’s almost an impossible save for the goaltender. He’s got to dive across in the creease… You want that defense to take away that pass the forward of the slot is covered, take away the most dangerous guy, which is the back door guy. So his job again, stop that pass.
Oilers fan Jeremy McKain @jeresells
Well we don’t like the lead anyways
Oilers fan ABBA Oil 🇨🇦 @Adam_B888
Stupid penalties… no more. Let’s go.
Oilers fan Waddsy 🇨🇦 @waddsy19
Oilers seeing some bad bounces (offensively) and some lucky bounces (defensively) and both could be fixed by finding a bit more intensity.
Sportsnet commentator Mark Spector🇨🇦🇺🇦 @SportsnetSpec
EDM with plenty of possession, but not turning that into Grade A’s.
Vegas far more effective in less time with the puck. Pickard has been sharp, with a couple key shot blocks as well.
Oilers Nation writer Bruce Curlock @bcurlock
Protect the bluelines fellas.
The Athletics’ Daniel Nugent-Bowman @DNBsports
The Oilers had a late push. Brown hit a crossbar and McDavid’s intended pass to Draisaitl on a two-on-one was knocked away by Pietrangelo.
Oilers fan Paul Almeida @AzorcanGlobal
I don’t mind that 1st period by the #Oilers. #Vegas is desperate team and the shots were 6-6 & they scored on their 2nd powerplay. The Oilers had no PPs.
Brown hit the post. Could easily be 1-1. The Oilers at the intermission can regroup & increase the tempo in the second.
Play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels
The Oilers have been out-scored 21-13 in the first two periods of playoff games this season.
Vegas hockey site SinBin.vegas @SinBinVegas
High-stick on Roy a long way away from the goal and while in possession of the puck. That one might hurt.
Oilers fan Sumit Tripathi @Sumit_Tripathi_
Neeeeeeeeeeeeed to score on this PP. NEEEEEEEEEEEED
Oilers fan Raghu Sharma – x @RajBauer
That PP was horrendous, what happened to the team that moved it with chaos, now we are so passive and no one shoots except once the d has gotten back into position. Just not good enough this year and Drai looks hurt ever since game 4 of the LA series
SinBin.vegas @SinBinVegas
VGK’s penalty kill remains perfect and they’ve looked excellent in their own end. Tons of zone time but nothing aside from a couple bombs from the top through multiple killers.

Hey State-Run Radio, this “AHL goaltender” is tougher than you thought…
Oilers fan Waddsy 🇨🇦 @waddsy19
Picks is the difference so far. Which is weird to say as an Oiler fan.
Edmonton appears happy with a split right now. It’s all Vegas. Oilers look slow. Can’t break through the Knights forecheck cleanly. Zero pucks won when they chip and chase. 8 shots half way in says it all.
Oilers fan Brad Lauder @OILfanincowtown
This is a game we need the big boys to do something.. they’ve been awfully quiet so far.
WALMAN TIES IT UP 🚀 pic.twitter.com/0VFMKUlAcQ

4th line goal as Podkolzin gains the zone & eventually gets it to the point where Walman hammers it past Hill. Arvidsson with the 2nd assist.

Petro and partner back in on Podkolzin, who unleashes a superior wrist shot that overpowers Hill.
Hill has to make that save, but letting an NHL shooter wire open shots from there…
Sometimes they go in.

Calvin Pickard is the next nightmare goalie for VGK after Khudobin and Price. Hill is getting outplayed by him and Vegas looks to be on their way to getting swept for the first time ever
Hockey scout Dan Tencer @dantencer
Pickard. What a save.
Hill. Not so good.
SHOOT EVERYTHING

Podzy having himself a period.. attack the Vegas D with speed, and stop with the dipsy doodle crap
Hockey writer Preston Hodgkinson @NHLHodgkinson
Can’t say the #Oilers are a two-man team anymore… those days are long past Both Edmonton goals powered by the fourth line tonight
Oiler fan Adam @OilersAdam
Vasily Podkolzin is so deserving of that goal. 92 has been a mutant in the playoffs. Huge hits, blocks and energy galore. He deserved to get on the score sheet!

Bizarro world with the opponent’s goalie behaving like Skinner and ours stopping everything
VGK hockey writer Jesse Granger @JesseGranger_
What a dirty play by Evander Kane. Skates into the crease full speed and hits Hill, who was WELL within the blue paint/ He’s getting 2 minutes for interference, but Whitecloud gets 2 for roughing, and it’s 4-on-4.
VGK commentator Chris Gawlik @TDChrisG
Tough spot for VGK as you’d expect McDavid to be heard from. Does VGK have three goals in them?
VGK commenator Tony Cordasco @TonyDasco
Pull Hill…
VGK commenator Ryan Wallis @RyanHockeyGuy
William Karlsson. 3-2 Oilers. Simple play. Eichel rips one on net, Karlsson with the tip at the top of the crease.
Hockey podcaster Pete Blackburn @PeteBlackburn
Every Oilers game is like watching someone start a bar fight by immediately giving the other person a gun & then kicking their ass in self-defense
Sportsnet commentator Mark Spector🇨🇦🇺🇦 @SportsnetSpec
Goaltending the difference in this one.
High danger chances at 13-4 — 10-0 in 2nd period – for Vegas, but EDM scores three in the period.
Pickard has been fantastic, Hill less so.
Win a period, control a series.
EDM hasn’t been great here, but win the next 20 minutes and they’re in command of this series.
And both teams know it.
Vegas commenator Chris Gawlik @TDChrisG
Is this the part when we start to worry about Hill’s 6 year/$37.5 million contract? Asking for a realm.
VGK hockey writer Danny Webster @DannyWebster21
Jack Eichel does not have a shot attempt — nevermind a shot on goal — through two periods.

The world is on Victor Olofsson hat trick watch. Unreal cross-ice pass from Eichel to Olofsson for another one-timer. Eichel with three helpers tonight.
4-3 with 15:28 left. It is beyond wild that the Golden Knights are dominating the special teams battle through 5-plus periods and are trailing in the third period of a game they need to win.
