New opponent in the NHL playoff bracket, same Edmonton Oilers.
Edmonton again started slow but finished strong to take Game 1 of its best-of-7 series with the Vegas Golden Knights, who try to square things up Thursday at home.
The books are leaning on a split too, with the home team favored to even things up.
Game 2 puck drop is scheduled for 9:30pm ET at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with ESPN providing the broadcast coverage.
The Golden Knights are -135 moneyline favorites in the NHL odds, with Edmonton not far off as +115 underdogs to to leave the Desert up 2-0 in this series. The total sits at 6.5 goals, and these teams went Under that total in Game 1.

The Edmonton Oilers have played with fire the entire playoffs, and have not yet been badly burned.
In fact, they are now in the NHL history books, as their 4-2 win over Vegas in Game 1 was their fifth straight come-from-behind victory in the playoffs, the first time that’s ever happened.
The usual suspects did what they were supposed to do, with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl helping wipe out a 2-0 deficit with their scoring work.
But it was the secondary scorers that carried it home, with Zach Hyman scoring the eventual game winner, and Connor Brown adding the insurance marker, with Evan Bouchard, Evander Kane and Ryan Nugent-Hopkinsall finding the scoresheet.
Calvin Pickard won his fifth straight start of these playoffs – and while he’s not exactly a Grade A stopper, he has started this series by outplaying Adin Hill.
Hill could not stop the onslaught, allowing four goals on 28 shots, the third time in these playoffs that he’s allowed four goals in a game, with all of them ending up in losses.
But he’s not solely to blame. Vegas’ offense went radio silent after a pair of Mark Stone goals vaulted the Knights to a 2-0 lead early.
From there, however, VGK mustered a total of seven shots through the final 40 minutes of play, finishing with just 17 shots on goal. It marked just the fourth time in 102 playoff games they’ve lost a game after holding a multi-goal lead, and the first time in regulation.

While these teams have gone Under the total in four of the last five head-to-heads, Vegas should not be taking its foot off the gas in a virtual must-win in Game 2. More offense is the key to ending the Oil, who have the second-worst goals against of the teams remaining, allowing 3.71 per contest.
On the flip side, we know the Oilers will continue to charge offensively in waves. Behind their dynamic duo, they lead the playoffs in scoring at 4.43 goals per game, tallying at least four goals in five of seven playoff games this year.

Draisaitl has been clutch all playoffs for the Oilers, as he’s been on the scoresheet in six of seven games so far, including a goal and an assist vs Vegas in the opener.
He now has goals in three straight games against the Golden Knights, including the regular season. He opened Round 1 with goals in consecutive games, and he’s got the shortest odds of anyone to do it again in Game 2.
For Vegas, Tomas Hertl was kept off the scoresheet for a third straight game in the playoffs. The 32-goal scorer in the regular season has not been consistently getting rubber on net.
In his first four games of the playoffs, Hertl bested his 2.5 shots-on-goal line three times, but has been under that mark ever since.
Until he snaps that funk, I’m happy to wager the Under again.
