This is a huge win for the U.S. with the 2026 Winter Olympics just 10 months away.
Canada has won five gold medals in women's ice hockey at the Olympics compared to just two for the U.S. The Americans won the gold in 2018 in a shootout but the Canadians responded with a win of their own in 2022.
Today's victory, coupled with the U.S. also beating Canada in the group stage last weekend, serves as a significant marker as we look ahead to the Milano Cortina Games.

Seventeen saves on 18 shots for Gwyneth Philips, who came in after Aerin Frankel left the game injured during the third period. She allowed one goal against in regulation and saved all 10 shots against in overtime. Stick taps to her, like Hailey said, for coming in mid-game in a super high-pressure environment and playing this well against a dangerous Team Canada.

The celebration was such a vibe, Janecke threw her stick right over the boards into the crowd. What a souvenir for the fan who caught it in the crowd.

I don't know if I can express how truly impressive Gwyneth Philips is right now. She's making point-blank saves on Marie-Philip Poulin and Laura Stacey in sudden-death overtime after sitting on the bench for almost 45 minutes of game time.
Regardless of the result, she's a huge story here tonight.

Chaos in the American crease as bodies are flying everyone. Philips, who only entered the game during the third period following Frankel's injury, stands tall to keep Canada out.

Some dangerous looks on both ends — Janecke, Fillier, and Knight all with some chances. But this one is still even, eight minutes into overtime.
