Last week was fairly tame, with no wild upsets or anything in the NHL handicapper world. But, we did see our picks model top the leaderboard with an 18-11 record and $575 in profit from moneyline wagers.

Handicappers last week were a bit all over the place. We saw Timothy Black and Ryan Davis taking it slow with their 3 wagers each (but 100% win rates). And, in classic fashion, we saw SAS Insider bet volume.
In total, the top five handicappers went 35-17 for a combined win rate of 67.3%. They brought home exactly $2,000 in profit. Overall, par for the course, seeing as how the top 5 just barely broke $2k in the previous week and had a similar win rate.
We’ve seen SAS Insider here a lot, and everytime I take a look at their betting history, they’re betting volume with a sub-70% win rate. But, that’s not entirely a bad thing, because they made it onto the top 5 list, right?
Well, last week was about the same stuff, except the nice chunk of change they won from NHL moneylines.

Unlike most computer picks models, SAS Insider didn’t just wager the favorite in every matchup. As you can see, they bet the underdogs pretty frequently, like with the Sabres at +237 or the Wild at +175. While some of these wagers obviously flop, to win 14 out of 19 moneylines is a pretty solid record.
It’s not shown in the screenshot, but between March 5th and March 8th, Insider hit a 10-wager hot streak, all moneylines. They only started losing when they bet on the Sabres (RIP).
During our last recap, we applauded Scott’s Picks for the 9-wager hot streak. Well, this week was a doozy for him.
He went 9-11 and lost over $400. How the mighty have fallen.
Looking at his betting history, he struggled the most with covering the spread. All of his spreads are +/- 1.5, which isn’t that bad in hockey, but he’s betting on high-scoring matchups.

Maybe he just hit a spot of bad luck, or maybe he let the fame and fortune of last week get to his head. But it’ll be a while before we see Scott’s Picks recover from this loss.
Tonight we’ll probably watch the Utah Hockey Club and the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks are listed as the underdog at +185 while UHC are leading at -225. In terms of season performance, the two teams are pretty evenly matched, so it’ll be an interesting game.
This weekend, we’ll watch the Capitals decimate the Sharks, and then we’ll sit down to enjoy the Stars and the Avalanche game. The Avalanche have been putting on a decent show this season, but we’re not sure how it will play out yet.
