In the precursor to their Stadium Series matchup this weekend, the Detroit Red Wings will host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.
The Red Wings are coming off a wild weekend of action where they picked up points in each of their two games since the 4 Nations Face-Off break. However, two blown multi-goal leads led to them losing to the Minnesota Wild in overtime on Saturday before needing OT to outlast the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
Then, they were able to get revenge against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night in St. Paul, with Simon Edvinsson’s two goals giving Detroit a 3-2 win.
The Blue Jackets have had only two games since the league-wide pause so far, but they certainly looked impressive when they hammered the Chicago Blackhawks 5-1 on Saturday. However, they bounced back with a 6-4 win over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.
The Red Wings are fourth in the Atlantic Division, holding the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Blue Jackets are fourth in the Metropolitan Division, two points back of Detroit, holding the second Wild Card position.
The Red Wings and Blue Jackets will be meeting for just the second time this season on Thursday. It will also be the only time the Blue Jackets will be visiting Detroit this year. The Wings pulled out a dramatic 5-4 win in Columbus to open the 2025 portion of their schedule.
