Two playoff hopefuls get set to meet up in the Sunshine State on Tuesday night as Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers pay a visit to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Oilers were one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the past couple of months, climbing their way up the standings to be in contention for the Pacific Division title. However, they have had a tough road since coming out of the 4 Nations Face-Off break. Currently in the midst of a five-game road trip, Edmonton was hammered this past weekend, losing 6-3 to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday before falling to the Washington Capitals, 7-3, on Sunday.
The Oilers are second in the Pacific, two points back of the first-place Vegas Golden Knights.
The Lightning were in the Wild Card conversation for the longest time. However, the team had a decent month of January before winning four straight games heading into the league-wide pause. Tampa Bay continued that impressive run in its first back on Sunday when they outlasted the Seattle Kraken 4-1, giving the team six wins in its last seven contests.
The Bolts are third in the Atlantic Division, four points back of the Toronto Maple Leafs for first.
