MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The 41st annual Pigs-N-Heat charity hockey game brought Marquette County law enforcement and firefighters together for a good cause and plenty of friendly competition Wednesday.
The matchup pits the two departments against each other. It benefits the Marquette County Fire Relief Fund, a fund that supports those who have been displaced after a fire. The game is also a chance to honor the police officer and firefighter of the year. Brian Olson, the senior advisor for the game, says the fire relief fund is critical to families during a stressful time.
“If someone can not live in their home because of a fire, we help them out with a few nights in a local hotel or motel,” Olson said. “We also give them some cash for an immediate startup for toothpaste, clothes, whatever makes them comfortable. It is a fun game, it’s a spirited game, it’s always a competitive game.”
The Pigs-N-Heat charity hockey game has raised more than half a million dollars in its 41 years. This year, the Pigs won with a final score of 6-5.
