With lead changes, unbelievable saves and a dramatic overtime winner, the 4 Nations Face-Off Championship Game between Canada and the United States delivered an instant-classic on the ice.
It delivered for broadcaster ESPN, too.
According to a news release from ESPN, Thursday’s championship game brought in 9.3 million viewers and peaked at 10.4 million. The release added that those numbers represent the network’s largest audience ever for a hockey broadcast.

Excluding NFL and college football broadcasts, Canada’s 3-2 overtime win was the network’s most-viewed event since the 2024 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks. It was also the most-viewed non-NFL event ever on ESPN+.
The 4 Nations Face-Off served as the NHL’s midseason break, with the league’s best players from the United States, Canada, Sweden and Finland coming together for a best-on-best tournament ahead of next year’s Winter Olympics in Italy.
The Dallas Stars sent five players to the tournament. Goaltender Jake Oettinger played for the United States and defenseman Thomas Harley played for Canada after coming in as a late injury replacement. The Stars were also well represented on Team Finland with forwards Roope Hintz and Mikael Granlund and defenseman Esa Lindell all taking part. Defenseman Miro Heiskanen was also selected by Finland but missed out due to a knee injury.
