As boys hockey teams head into the hearts of their schedules, MassLive wants to highlight some of the top games to watch each week.
Whether it’s a potential milestone captured, a bout between two longtime rivals, or two streaking teams facing off, our staff will share the top contests to get out to and when and where they’re taking place.
For this week, Jan. 26 – Feb. 1, here are three Catholic Conference boys hockey games to watch.
Saint John’s (8-5) at Xaverian (12-2) at Canton Ice House on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
Last time these two teams played, the Pioneers gave the Hawks their first loss of the year, 2-1 in overtime.
Since then however, Saint John’s has struggled, losing three games in a row entering Wednesday’s contest. Xaverian meanwhile, has responded with four wins in five games since the loss on Jan. 10.
Catholic Memorial (12-1-1) at St. John’s Prep (7-3-2) at Essex Sports Center on Jan. 28 at 6:40 p.m.
After losing three games in a row including one to the Knights, the Eagles are playing some of their best hockey right now. Prep has three wins in a row for the first time since late December and will look to keep the winning streak going and get revenge on CM on Wednesday.
Catholic Memorial (12-1-1) at BC High School(5-7) at Murphy Rink on Jan. 31 at 11 a.m.
After traveling to face Prep, CM will head south to take on the other Eagles in BC High. Last time out, the Knights won 4-1 and though the Eagles have struggled this season, they do have an impressive win over the Pioneers on their resume.
