RIT and Miami are dueling in the third period, with the Tigers surging for their best 10 minutes they’ve played all afternoon.
Miami is still holding onto the 2-0 lead though, as G Matteo Drobac has stopped all 18 shots he has faced today.
The RedHawks are dominating play in the second period, outshooting the Tigers 11-2, but RIT netminder Jakub Krbecek has stood tall, stopping everything he’s faced in the second frame.
Now RIT will have a chance to cut into the RedHawks’ lead with a late powerplay opportunity after Miami’s Doug Grimes was called for a boarding minor.
The RedHawks take a 2-0 lead with a powerplay goal with just over five minutes to go in the period.
Miami cycles the puck around the zone and up to the point for Vladislav Lukashevich, who slides a set-up pass over to Ilia Morozov, who absolutely hammers a one-timer short side over the shoulder of Jakub Krbecek for the 2-0 lead.

After a puck battle in the corner, Nicholas Mikan gets loose in front and rips a shot from the low slot, and the rebound bounces straight to the stick of Bradley Walker, who finds twine for the game’s first goal.

No. 20 Union dominates Sacred Heart in Game 1 of the Friendship Four tournament, scoring eight unanswered goals in an 8-1 win to advance to the tournament championship game.
Sacred Heart opened the scoring in the first period after a miscue from the Union defenders and goaltender, leaving Gavin Bryant alone in front for a sweet backhand finish.

But that was all the goalscoring the Pioneers could muster in this one, as the Garnet Chargers outshot them 32-19 and blanked them for the rest of the game. Riley Brueck got Union’s first of the game about six minutes after the Sacred Heart goal, and it was all Chargers from there on, as Union piled on eight unanswered goals in an offensive onslaught.

Union’s eight goals are a new Friendship Four tournament record. The Garnet Chargers advance to the championship game with the chance to become the first team to win two Belpot trophies in the tournament’s history.
Game 2 between Miami (OH) and RIT is on deck, with puck drop at 2 p.m. ET. Follow along right here on NCAA.com for live updates, scores and highlights during the game.
The Garnet Chargers are proving why they are worthy of their No. 20 ranking, as they keep their foot on the gas, scoring their eighth unanswered goal. Their eight goals are a tournament record for the most goal by one team in a single game in the Friendship Four.
On the forecheck, Alex Laurenza jumped on a loose puck in the corner and slid it into the slot where Ben Muthersbaugh was waiting, and he hammered it into the cage for his second of the game.
A Friendship Four record!

After an offensive-zone faceoff win, a centering pass tipped by Drew Sutton bounces off a body in the low slot and into the net for Union’s seventh of the day.

Union extends the lead to five goals with a net-front deflection on the powerplay from Lucas Buzziol. Tyler Dunbar walked the blue line, flipping a wrist shot into traffic in front, and Buzziol got a stick on it and tipped it past Gundarah for the Garnet Chargers’ sixth goal of the day.

Tyler Dunbar makes it FIVE straight goals for Union, as he walks down from the half wall to the goal line, steps past a Pioneer defender and glides right into the low slot, reaching around Gundarah for his fifth goal of the season.

Union gets on the board first in the second period with a beautiful passing play. They cycled the puck down low, where Lucas Bussiol was set up below the goal line. He bounced it back into the slot with a quick pass to Connor Smith, who ripped a one-timer from the slot for the Garnet Chargers’ fourth of the day.

The Garnet Chargers get ANOTHER first period tally, this time as Brandon Buhr capitalizes on a lucky bounce in front of the SHU net. The puck deflected off a Pioneer’s skate and right onto Buhr’s tape, and he hammered it home from the low slot to give Union a 3-1 lead.

Union gets on the board with a sweet finish on a 2-on-1 after a bad neutral zone pinch from the Sacred Heart defenders. Troy Pelton slides a pass over to Riley Brueck, who bangs it home for the Garnet Chargers’ first of the day.

And they wasted no time, scoring a second goal less than a minute later. A blind centering pass from Nate Hanley found its way to the high slot, where Ben Muthersbaugh was waiting, and he ripped it top shelf to give Union the lead.

After SHU goaltender Ajeet Gundarah made an acrobatic save at one end of the ice, the Union defenders and goaltender made an error at the other end, as G Cameron Korpi came out of his crease to play the puck, but turned it over to SHU’s Ethan Wolthers. Wolthers threw it in front to a wide-open Gavin Bryant, who made a cut to his backhand and slid it into the cage for the game’s first goal.
